The second location for Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers opened today as Sioux Falls residents made preparations for the coming blizzard.

That didn’t stop a steady stream of customers from coming into the restaurant or ordering in the drive-thru. However, it likely will prevent the location from setting a company record for strongest opening week sales like the first location in Sioux Falls did in April 2022.

The new franchise site is at 4005 S. Louise Ave. on The Empire Mall campus. It’s just south of Burger King.

“We made our Sioux Falls debut at Dawley Farms last year,” franchise owner Ron Oberg said in a news release. “That location has gradually become a local go-to for a quick bite to eat and serves as a great place for friends and family to meet up, relax and enjoy a quality meal together. We’re excited to expand into the southwest part of the city and look forward to serving guests in the area.”

Freddy’s announced plans in November 2021 to build the second location and initially hoped to open in April 2022. Work started in June 2022.

The new restaurant features seating for 88 customers at tables and a few booths. When the weather is warmer, there will be seating on a patio.

Freddy’s is known for its cooked-to-order steakburgers, all-beef hot dogs, shoestring fries and frozen custard treats made with freshly churned chocolate or vanilla frozen custard. It serves Pepsi products and recently pointed that out on social media after competitor Culver’s switched from Pepsi to Coke.

The chain was founded in 2002 in Wichita, Kansas, and has grown to more than 460 locations in 36 states.

Both locations in Sioux Falls open at 10:30 a.m. daily and close at 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
