Electric vehicle charging station arrives downtown

Sept. 1, 2021

It has been operational for only a matter of days, but electric vehicle owners already have been finding the newest addition to downtown.

It’s a charging station by provider ChargePoint on the northwest corner of Railyard Flats, the newly opened office and apartment building on East Eighth Street that also includes Highball.

Drivers pay by credit card or through an app. A full charge takes about two hours.

“Sustainability is a focus of ours in the development,” Railyard co-owner Anne Haber said.

The building itself is a sustainable form of construction using a modern mass timber approach, and Railyard Flats also uses efficient HVAC along with a number of green spaces and trees in the landscaping.

“Adding a ChargePoint station was just another way to encourage and support sustainable consciousness for our tenants and all of downtown. It’s also a convenient amenity to those living here and downtown.”

ChargePoint is the world’s largest network of electric vehicle charging stations in North America and Europe. The other one in Sioux Falls is at J&L Harley-Davidson at 2601 W. 60th St. N.
