Downtown restaurant opens ghost kitchen

Aug. 30, 2022

A local restaurant has opened a ghost kitchen serving superfood bowls.

Super Bowlz is an offshoot of Agua Fresh, which has been serving sandwiches, smoothies and more for three years from the first floor of an office building at Ninth Street and Phillips Avenue.

Starting as a ghost kitchen provides a good opportunity to gauge support for the concept, owner Sinan Taskin said.

“That’s the question, too, if it reaches the revenue that I’m targeting, that it will be worth it to open a stand-alone location.”

While Agua Fresh has three bowls on its menu, customers will find extensive offerings from Super Bowlz.

Customers can order online for pickup or DoorDash delivery, or they can order from the restaurant using a QR code found at the tables.

The bowls feature bases and toppings that are sugar-free, dairy-free, gluten-free, vegan and organic, according to the Super Bowlz website.

Customers can create a customized bowl or pick one of seven “Zignature Bowlz.”

The build-your-own bowls start with one of seven bases: acerola, dragon, cupuacu, acai, chia, goiaba or graviola. From there, customers can pick from a dozen toppings such as almonds, toasted coconut, peanut butter, strawberries, pineapple and caramel.

While acai and dragon fruit are more common, the other bases have the same nutrition, Taskin said.

“These are different flavors of tropical fruits that people are not familiar with here. We’re giving them a taste of the different tropical fruits.”

Hours at Agua Fresh, 101 S. Phillips Ave., are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
