Here’s a look at recent changes in the business landscape in the Sioux Falls area.
The former Old Chicago Pizza + Taproom property will become a gas station, convenience store and car wash. Kwik Trip Inc., which operates as Kwik Star in South Dakota, bought the site at 4301 W. 41st St. Kwik Star plans to start construction in early 2027, opening by summer.
Dakota Butcher has opened a store at 5009 S. Western Ave. in The Bridges at 57th development. It’s the seventh location in South Dakota for the Watertown-based business. The butcher shop features a 36-foot counter for meat and seafood, grocery section, grab-and-go meals, take-and-bake pizzas. It also features game processing. Hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
A new indoor gym focusing on strength, confidence and character for kids is now open at 2556 S. Lorraine Place in the Lake Lorraine development. KidStrong is owned by franchisee Jonelle Clow. The curriculum for kids from toddlers to age 11 is taught through 45-minute, age-specific classes every week and is based on developmental milestones.
A store that specializes in reselling returns and overstock from major retailers has opened at 3709 W. 41st St. HomeLife is owned by Shane Oien, who previously co-owned similar businesses. By the end of the month, HomeLife’s new space is expected to be ready in part of the former Conlin’s building at 41st and West Avenue. The store sells discounted merchandise along with items in crates that are restocked every Friday and reduced in price daily through Monday. It’s closed Tuesday through Thursday.
A new retail store features apparel targeted at those from African and Arab cultures, jewelry, Arabic perfumes and perfumed oils. Bayt al Jamal at 2007 S. Minnesota Ave. is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
Lauriebelles is closing its downtown boutique at 206 S. Phillips Ave. The final day is expected to be Jan. 10. Shops in Tea and The Empire Mall will remain open and online sales will continue. The downtown site opened in 2019.
Toy store Kidtopia has closed its location at Dawley Farm Village. Owner Sheryl Nelson plans to continue operating a booth at Makers Exchange in Tea. Kidtopia began its liquidation sale in late October.
The nonprofit organization SuFu Creative is ending, but its offerings will continue as a business. Founder Heather Cain, owner of Zenith Art Studios, is calling the new business reCREATE by Zenith. It will continue to sell donated arts and crafts supplies and offer workshops for free or small charge at 218 W. 13th St., Suite 110.
