A new indoor gym focusing on strength, confidence and character for kids is now open on the west side of Sioux Falls.

When the national KidStrong franchise was looking at expanding to the Sioux Falls market, Jonelle Clow jumped at the opportunity.

Clow is closer to family here, and after 15 years in Arizona, this is where she wanted to raise her daughter, who had been doing KidStrong classes for almost two years.

She said she knew KidStrong would be a great fit for Sioux Falls.

“We are looking forward to it so much,” the franchise owner said. “Sioux Falls has a growing market with families always looking for activities for their kids, especially in these cold winter months.”

Open to kids from walking age to 11-years-old, the curriculum is taught through 45-minute, age-specific classes every week and is based on developmental milestones. Coaches use a hands-on approach to apply insights from occupational therapy, child development and physical education.

“We encourage close-up parent involvement and observation, keeping families connected to their child’s progress and celebrating milestones together,” Clow explained.

She said she hopes the experience empowers both children and their parents in ways that go beyond a fun activity or regular sport.

“I want kids to learn to believe in themselves. I hope that KidStrong builds their confidence and resilience; develops their physical, mental, social skills; and that learning is made fun for them. For parents, I want them to see growth and progress in their children, to be engaged and connected with their kids during their classes and gain understanding of their child’s ‘superpowers’ or strengths.”

The business opened earlier in December, then closed over Christmas and will be back open on Monday.

Find the gym at 2556 S. Lorraine Place in the former Wings Gymnastics Academy, which has moved classes to its main location at 5825 S. Bahnson Ave.

KidStrong is open for classes as well as camps and birthday parties.
