Here’s a look at recent changes in the business landscape in the Sioux Falls area.

Fat Kid Pizza, from the owners of Fat Kid Filly’s, is taking over the food court space in The Empire Mall that has been held by a couple of restaurants since Villa Italian Kitchen closed in March 2020. Customers will be able to get grab-and-go pizza slices and pastas. They can order whole pizzas, picking from a variety of standard toppings. It’s expected to open in early July.

Debbie Willard of rural Valley Springs has started Spudz ‘n Stuff. The food truck features baked potatoes, tater tots and waffle fries that are loaded with toppings. The menu includes hot dogs, chili dogs, walking tacos, nachos and pretzels. It’s booked for some of the Brandon Farmers Market dates and other events. It also can be booked for private gatherings.

Khorasan Kabob House at 923 S. Marion Road has reopened. The restaurant closed a year ago after the owners got a catering contract from an organization to provide lunch four days a week for almost 250 people.

The officer tower that’s under construction at The Steel District is getting two additional tenants. Philadelphia Insurance Cos. plans to move into the downtown building in fall, and the law firm Robins Kaplan LLP is targeting late summer of early fall for its move. Both businesses are growing and will have larger offices than their current spaces.

Central Dakota Perk has opened its drive-thru-only coffee shop in Harrisburg. It’s next to Subway on North Cliff Avenue. Earlier this month, it began serving an all-day breakfast menu. Hours are 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday.

A nonprofit organization has been formed to help businesses navigate international trade. South Dakota Trade has an office at Joe Foss Field.

Lockwood & Zahrbock Kool Law Office has moved into its renovated building at 121 S. Franklin Ave. The building has room for two additional tenants, and Farmhouse Market, which has a location in Edgerton, Minnesota, will take one of the spaces. The business sells handmade and vintage home decor that owners Phil and Kristy Vander Ziel and other makers have created. They hope to open in mid-August.

Dr. Holli Charbonneau and her husband, Jared Pomranky, have started Vital Flows Infusions. The business at 114 S. Main Ave. offers IV hydration therapy and vitamin injections. It also offers a mobile service.

Electronic Systems Inc., or ESI, has broken ground on an 18,500-square-foot expansion at its Sioux Falls headquarters, 600 E. 50th St. N. It will support manufacturing of high-tech custom electronic circuit board assemblies involving automated equipment, assembly and testing operations.

The owners of Wagoo Burger have started a food truck. The mobile version of the burger restaurant will offer burgers, chislic, fries and cheese curds. A cheesesteak offering will use beer cheese made with a brew from Fernson Brewing Co. The food truck also will support catering for Crawford’s Bar & Grill, which they own as well.

Barry “Chef B” Selland has started Soul Train, a food truck designed to “elevate some crazy food” while operating from an eye-catching 26-foot long trolley. The menu will change often and include ribs, other smoked meats, smash burgers, different kinds of grilled cheese, mac-and-cheese and collard greens.

Frozen dessert shop Polar Bites has added a six-hole miniature golf course to its downtown location at 401 E. Eighth St. in the Eighth & Railroad Center complex.

South Dakota-based MSF Hotels LLC is developing a 114-room Everhome Suites extended stay hotel near the Sanford Sports Complex. It will begin construction soon on the west side of North Westport Avenue and open about a year later.

Progressive Property Management has a new owner — its original one. Jannelle Cain started the property management firm in 1997 and sold it in 2006. Progressive Property Management has a couple hundred units under management in the Sioux Falls area and has had multiple owners since Cain sold it, most recently Jodi and Earl Broker.

Black Hills Federal Credit Union has opened its fourth location in Sioux Falls. The location at 3701 E. 10th St. features three drive-up lanes, four offices, and new Interactive Teller Machine technology.
