Chef-driven comfort food fills new winter feature menu

Flavorful new dishes and customer favorites are offered for a limited time on the new winter features menu at Grille 26.

Start off with the BBQ chicken flatbread, made with pulled barbecue chicken, barbecue sauce, caramelized onions, mozzarella and cheddar cheeses and hot honey.

“While I can honestly say I really enjoy all these features, I really like the BBQ chicken flatbread with a twist, especially the hot honey on it,” Vanguard Hospitality CEO Ken Bashore said. “It’s great to share.”

In the mood for a salad? Guests are loving the Honeycrisp Salad, made with spring mix, arugula and romaine, apples, honey-glazed pecans and pumpkin seeds, pomegranate seeds, feta, avocado and apple vinaigrette.

“The salad has been a huge favorite,” Bashore said. “It’s very harvest-inspired. I’ve seen people just eating the toppings; they’re that good.”

Comfort food arrives in a big way with the cannelloni, made with roasted shredded chicken, spinach, mozzarella, Parmesan, bechamel and marinara, served with garlic bread.

“If you like lasagna, you’re going to love that dish and the great garlic bread it comes with,” Bashore said.

The beef ragu and pappardelle might be his personal pick of the new features.

“We slow-braise beef from Hadrick Ranch for it, and it’s light even though it sounds like it’s going to be really heavy,” he said. “It’s just got great flavor and is a good winter hearty dish.”

Same with the meatball hoagie, made with Italian meatballs, sauteed peppers and onions, smoked provolone and marinara, served on a grilled hoagie with fries.

“You’re not going to walk away from that saying you’re still hungry,” Bashore said. “It’s really good. I had it the other night with my family, and I just loved it. It reminds me of a sandwich you’d get on the East Coast — it’s delicious.”

Need your fix of butternut squash risotto? It’s still here for another handful of weeks. Same with the popular local steak frites and the lamb burger, made with Prairie Coteau Farms ground lamb.

“The lamb burger is still getting great feedback, and it might make the regular menu,” Bashore said. “If you like it, come order it and that will help push it over the edge to stay on the list.”

Dining out soon? Bashore encourages a reservation — even if you’re calling in shortly before you want to dine.

“Make them now, even for New Year’s Eve and the weekend,” he said. “Because of how the dates of the holidays fall, people especially are going to be going out. Plus, the weather is cooperating, so we expect to see a lot of guests, and making a reservation will make your experience smoother.”

Here’s a closer look at the features, which likely will stay on until later in January:
