Boston’s Pizza will return to Sioux Falls

Oct. 12, 2023

A new restaurant is taking over Boss’ Pizzeria & Sports Bar in the Ramada Waterpark.

Boss’ Pizzeria will close Sunday in the hotel at Russell and West streets and will be replaced by Boston’s Pizza Restaurant & Sports Bar.

Several years ago, Boston’s had a location in Sioux Falls on East 10th Street in the space where Tokyo Sushi & Hibachi is now.

Hotel owners Chad Burleson and Tim Johnson decided to open a franchise location for the national chain after finding success with it at a hotel they also own in Deadwood. The lease is expiring for Boss’ Pizzeria, which opened in the hotel in late 2019, and the partners wanted to have control of their own restaurant.

They’re hoping to open just before the new year.

“Boston’s Pizza Restaurant & Sports Bar will provide a gourmet pizza that is missing from Sioux Falls,” said Burleson, who serves as the operating owner here. “Along with gourmet pizza, we have an expansive menu that serves everything from steak to pasta to seafood to salads along with appetizers and desserts that are to die for.”

The partners opened their first Boston’s at the Deadwood Gulch Gaming Resort in August 2022. It “has been a major hit by locals and tourists from across the globe,” Burleson said.

“We knew we wanted pizza but not just any pizza — pizza that is made fresh, with fresh ingredients and of high quality,” he said. “Being inside a hotel with a waterpark, there is no other food choice that complements the property as well as pizza does. We also wanted to make sure we had a dining experience that caters to everyone. While pizza is a huge part of our menu, we wanted to make sure we had something for everyone. Boston’s has such a wide variety that everyone can find something on the menu to fall in love with.”

In Deadwood, the top sellers are the thin-crust specialty pizzas, pizza burger, lasagna, barbecue ribs and appetizers.

The pizzas also come in an original crust. There’s a gluten-free option for the pizzas but not the pastas.

Menu changes happen seasonally.

When asked for his favorite menu item, Burleson listed at least one from each section on the menu.

“Honestly, it is all so good,” he said, pointing out the barbecue chicken pizza, spicy chicken and broccoli alfredo pasta, lasagna, pizza burger, French dip, fish and chips, steak frites, whiskey cake and several appetizers.

Burleson and Johnson are planning other changes as part of the remodeling.

“We are also putting in an expansive audio visual package (in the restaurant) to offer all the games,” Burleson said. “We are also renovating our banquet facilities to offer live entertainment and banquets. We plan to have specials (in the restaurant) and be the premier tailgating option for all the Denny Sanford Premier Center events. We also will have a team room where teams can gather to celebrate and eat together.”

Boston’s Pizza will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. During lunch, the restaurant will ensure quick service for those who need to get back to work, Burleson said. The full menu is available then, but there also are lunch specials.

“The most popular lunch item is The Nooner, which is an Indy-size gourmet pizza and either a salad or bowl of soup.”

The hotel restaurant has a full liquor license. In addition to cocktails, it will serve wine and beer, with local craft beers among the offerings. An APPY Hour will offer specials on appetizers and drinks.

At the Ramada Waterpark, Burleson wants Boston’s to be an inviting space for guests and a destination for locals.

“We want an upbeat atmosphere where you can go for a nice family meal, meet up with friends and, of course, watch the game! With different areas of the restaurant, we will have something for everyone. Even those traveling solo will have a spot at the bar to be entertained and grab an amazing bite to eat.”

For Boss’ Pizzeria, this is the second location to close in a month. The restaurant in Tea went out of business Sept. 24. Owner Jeremy Seefeldt, who also owns Boss’ Pizza & Chicken, said he’d like to find another hotel in Sioux Falls to host the pizzeria and sports bar concept.
