It wasn’t intentional — but hard to pick a better fit: The national smoothie chain Smoothie King has opened at Empire Place on the day dubbed National Smoothie Day.

It’s located in a new retail center in front of The Empire Mall next to Taichi Bubble Tea, which opened last week.

One of the first customers in the door was someone who moved from another state and knew the national brand from there, franchisee Angie Nearman said.

She also discovered Smoothie King in another city and decided to bring it to Sioux Falls.

The Empire Place store could be the first of multiple locations in the market.

With more than 1,300 locations and 100 in development, Smoothie King features a menu that combines whole fruits, organic vegetables and nutritional enhancers.

There are blends designed for energy, fitness, wellness, weight management and as a treat. There are some snacks sold in addition to the beverages.

The Sioux Falls location also offers online or in-app ordering for pickup in the store.

Hours are 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.
