A one-of-a-kind grocery experience will open next week in downtown Sioux Falls.

Locally owned Pomegranate Market has set Dec. 12 as opening day in The Clark building at Cherapa Place, 350 N. Reid St.

The 20,000-square-foot store already has been met with “so much positive feedback from the community,” co-owner Craig Snyder said. “There are so many ways the city has embraced us, including the larger metro area, and I look forward to what the future brings.”

His son Jonah led the effort to develop the downtown location.

“We’re thrilled about it,” Jonah Snyder said. “We brought together a team of experts in our community but also from around the country to create the most exciting, premium grocery experience you could find. It’s gone from an idea in our heads to a set of construction drawings and now actually built out. I’m thrilled with how it’s turned out and really eager to see how the customers will respond.”

The store will place a heavier emphasis on prepared food and include a 60-seat bistro with hot and cold options for dine in or to go, along with a separate Groove wellness bar featuring organic juices, specialty drinks and smoothies.

The kitchen will be led by executive chef T.R. Fuentes-Mckenzie, who most recently served in the same role at Morrie’s Steakhouse. Guests can expect Pomegranate Market’s signature salad bar and hot bar, as well as a menu of hot and cold sandwiches and burgers. A taqueria will offer eight varieties of tacos, served on your choice of tortilla, pita or naan, while a world bowls line will offer international grain-based bowls, burritos and salads.

“The Snyders are really being visionary,” said Jeff Scherschligt, founder of Cherapa Place developer Pendar Properties.

“They got into Pomegranate Market as a commitment to their community, and we felt the same about Cherapa Place, so the alignment of those things has been very positive.”

The store will offer a range of seating designed for everything from meeting up for a meal to spending time working from the space. Shoppers will find an array of produce and grocery staples, along with wellness and gourmet sections.

There’s space for about 30 percent more inventory than the original store at 4815 S. Louise Ave., which will continue operations as usual.

“Seventy-five to 80 percent of the products you’ll see on the shelves downtown are things people know and love from the first store, and in other departments like our gourmet section or wellness department, up to half the products are new,” Jonah Snyder said.

“We’ve worked closely with many of our best vendors on the product mix and can’t wait to introduce them to guests.”

Hiring is going well, but the store is still filling some final positions in the kitchen. The best way to apply is online.

Hours will be 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
