Acton Children’s Business Fair accepting new young entrepreneurs for June event

June 10, 2022

This paid event listing is sponsored by Acton Academy Sioux Falls.

The smallest small-business owners with great, big ideas are invited to sell their work at the upcoming second annual Acton Children’s Business Fair.

Presented by Acton Academy Sioux Falls, it will be from 4 to 6 p.m. June 30 as part of the Lake Lorraine Farmer’s Market.

“Last year, we featured 17 young entrepreneurs and drew about 300 shoppers,” Acton Academy Sioux Falls co-founder Aaron Johnson said.

“Past businesses have included handmade inventions, baked goods, handcrafted jewelry, accessories, tie-dyed T-shirts, decorative crafts, bubbles, dog sitting, and more.”

Kids age 6 to 14 have until June 16 to apply this year. It’s $30 to reserve a booth. Kids must complete an application form with their business idea and marketing plan. Click here to learn more and apply.

“Children love the freedom to execute their own ideas and to be able to earn a profit from something that they have worked hard for,” Johnson said.

“For children who want to sell at our business fair, they need to know the business fair is a fun experience to learn entrepreneurial skills and mindsets that will prepare them for the future. But they also need to develop an idea, create a product or service, and build a marketing strategy.”

The event is looking for sponsors. For $100, small businesses will be given social media shoutouts, a T-shirt, a booth for one child’s business and a logo displayed at the event.

“We are planning on providing tents and would love to find a tent sponsor for the children and featuring more businesses this year,” Johnson said.

“Acton Academy Sioux Falls is a learner-driven school that works like a business startup. Not everybody should be an entrepreneur, but children should be encouraged to have an entrepreneurial mindset where they learn to provide value, look for solutions, be decisive and proactive, and compete ethically. These skills benefit every child.”
