West-side Boss’ Pizza & Chicken to reopen

May 21, 2026

Boss’ Pizza & Chicken will reopen Friday on the west-side of Sioux Falls, with carryout and delivery throughout the city and into Tea.

Mike and Sandra Shelburg are the new owner-operators of the franchised location.

Former franchisee Ryan Bitterman closed the delivery and carryout location at 5330 W. 26th St. and the restaurant at 2111 S. Minnesota Ave. earlier this spring.

Boss’ founder, Jeremy Seefeldt, said he and his wife were heartbroken to see the closure of the business they started in Sioux Falls 20 years ago and had tried to work on a seamless transition. Seefeldt had turned over the Sioux Falls locations to Bitterman two years ago so he could focus on expanding the franchise, which has eight restaurants in South Dakota and surrounding states and is served out of the Big C Travel Plaza in Clark.

Seefeldt said he was able to recover the 26th Street location and the lease but not the Minnesota Avenue site, which is becoming Union Smash & Pizza from the owners of Union Social in Harrisburg.

He’s happy to have a former operating partner return Boss’ menu of pizza, broasted chicken, sandwiches, pasta and more to Sioux Falls. Mike Shelburg started at Boss’ as a delivery driver, helped open locations in other states and eventually became an operating partner for a couple of years for Boss’ in South Sioux City. The Shelburgs also own Ship605.

“Our new franchisees, Mike and Sandra, will make you remember why you once loved Boss’ huge array of specialty pizzas, and the steaming hot and juicy broasted chicken we brought to your door,”  the Seefeldts said in a post on social media.

Shelburg has spent the past few weeks deep cleaning and updating the 26th Street location, replacing part of the kitchen floor and painting in the lobby area.

To start, Boss’ will be available from 4 p.m. to 3 a.m. daily for carryout and delivery by Boss’ employees or through DoorDash. Catering orders for lunch can be fulfilled with 24 hours’ notice.

“Once we have a good, solid handle on everything,” lunch hours will be added, said Shelburg, who’s planning to work in the business, with help from his wife, children, friends and staff.

While service from 1st & Tenders, a ghost kitchen that operated out of Boss’ kitchen, has been suspended temporarily, that is expected to return eventually, Seefeldt said. Customers are always able to order the chicken tenders off the Boss’ menu anyway.

Shelburg, who has “lived in Sioux Falls the majority of my life,” said he has tried to do his best over the years by contributing to the community and is looking forward to bringing back Boss’ traditional free Thanksgiving meals. With the smaller space at 26th Street, the meals likely will be chicken instead of turkey, but they’ll include all the fixings, he said.

If business goes as well as he expects, he’d like to open a dine-in Boss’ on the east side of Sioux Falls in a year or two.
