Winter carnival coming to downtown Sioux Falls

Jan. 2, 2019

The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sioux Empire will hold a Winter Carnival event starting Feb. 1 in downtown Sioux Falls.

The nonprofit was the recipient of a maximum $5,000 grant from Downtown Sioux Falls Inc. to hold the event.

The carnival will run through Feb. 9 with activities including a First Friday lunch on the plaza next to the Federal Courthouse, a snow sculpting contest, snow yoga, or “snowga,” a snow boot boot camp at Fawick Park, a “S’moresfest” at several locations and a family board game event at various sites.

Restaurants also will feature “comfort food for a cause” with items benefiting the Boys & Girls Clubs.

There will be a pop-up ice rink at 8th & Railroad Feb. 7-9, a family “snowfest” at 8th & Railroad Feb. 9 and a pub crawl culminating in a Winter Jam & Block Party at 8th & Railroad Feb. 9 featuring The Spill Canvas.

“Building a strong community is a key component to creating great futures for kids. By getting involved in impactful projects with the city we are helping to teach our kids through leading by example. We are thrilled to have been chosen for this grant and the opportunities it will offer,” said Amy Sumner, director of philanthropy for Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sioux Empire.
