Some things just make sense together.
For Sioux Falls-based Silencer Central, which aims to deliver a better hunting experience through its best-in-class suppressors, a collaboration with outdoor lifestyle company MeatEater Inc. felt like a natural partnership.
Based in Montana and founded by renowned writer and TV personality Steven Rinella, MeatEater was formed with the belief that a deeper understanding of the natural world enriches all our lives.
Rinella has gained wide popularity with hunters and nonhunters alike through his passion for outdoor adventure and wild foods, as well as his strong commitment to conservation.
As a company, MeatEater brings together leading influencers in the outdoor space to create premium content experiences and unique apparel and equipment.
“We’d been looking for the right time and the right way to partner and what made sense for both our businesses,” said Logan Hutchinson, director of marketing for Silencer Central.
“It really evolved into us determining together that we wanted to collaborate on a product for their customer base in the hunting-focused market and try to educate people together about suppressors.”
Lukas VanLaecken, director of engineering, was part of the Sioux Falls team that developed the suppressor with MeatEater.
“We worked closely with MeatEater to outline the design requirements and meet the end user with a suppressor that’s very hunting-focused,” he said. “It has high sound reduction and reduces recoil in a way that makes it very quiet in a small package.”
Called The MeatEater by BANISH, it’s a state-of-the-art suppressor that was designed and co-created with the MeatEater crew. The suppressor is rated up to the .300RUM cartridge and uses an anchor brake to reduce recoil up to 40 percent, plus features:
- Adjustable anchor brake
- Interchangeable muzzle cap insert
- Industry-standard hub mount
“We told the folks at Silencer Central that we wanted to help build a suppressor that was lightweight, short, user-serviceable, quiet and reduced recoil. It seemed impossible, but from every test we’ve done, that team was able to walk a fine line to help us accomplish all of those things in a package dedicated for hunting rigs,” said Ryan Callaghan, MeatEater’s director of conservation.
At Silencer Central, “this was really exciting for my team,” VanLaecken said. “Being familiar with the brand and followers of the show on Netflix and all they’ve done, it was really cool to develop this joint partnership.”

“From a marketing perspective, their strong passion for the outdoors and conservation aligned with everything we feel strongly about,” Hutchinson said. “There’s a lot of synergy and a very loyal following. MeatEaters keep very strong ties to the brand, and they do everything professionally, which aligns with Silencer Central and really makes it a perfect fit.”
The new partnership debuted with a MeatEater podcast, and there will be additional content coming about it, including “a lot of hunts featuring the suppressor,” Hutchinson said.
“Their YouTube channel has a great following, well over 1 million, and the podcast is really popular, so it’s a very big brand, and we’re excited to connect with their followers.”
Those who purchase the new suppressor – or any suppressor – will find “approval times are trending super-fast,” Hutchinson said. “We’re seeing it in a matter of days in many cases on average, so it’s definitely possible to enjoy using a new suppressor for hunting season.”
As VanLaecken reflects on the MeatEater suppressor, “I think it met and exceeded the initial vision. Everything we set out to do with them we achieved,” he said. “But the final performance and look of it, I think, went above and beyond what any of us thought it could be to really make it stand out in the suppressor industry.”
