Vanguard Hospitality makes improvements to 2 Sioux Falls restaurants

Some favorite Sioux Falls restaurants are getting a little spruced up — with new items on the menu for diners to try too.

“We know it’s important to invest in every facet of a restaurant experience, including the spaces themselves, so we’ve been taking advantage of the summer to make some improvements,” Vanguard Hospitality CEO Ken Bashore said.

Morrie’s Steakhouse

Morrie’s Steakhouse is back open after taking a couple of days to re-sand and refinish the flooring in the dining room.

“That’s an improvement that’s been on our list, and now was a time we could take some time to do it,” Bashore said. “It’s beautiful and was done by a true craftsman who does fantastic work. It’s the same color, just might look a little brighter, and it will darken as it ages.”

When you come back to Morrie’s, you’ll also find new additions on the menu — more on that soon, but don’t miss the new chicken mole.

“We had guests from Texas the other day who are definite steakhouse connoisseurs, but one ordered this dish and said it was among the best moles he’s tried,” Bashore said. “We’re getting a lot of positive feedback on that dish.”

Grille 26

Next up for a floor upgrade: Grille 26, where the bar will receive a new tile floor starting this week.

“We’ve been dealing with water damage and other maintenance issues with the current flooring, so this new floor will stand the test of time,” Bashore said.

The bar will be off-limits until the project is done, and the main dining room will open at 5 p.m. today and Tuesday. The hope is to be back to normal hours in the dining room by Wednesday or Thursday. The bar area will be out of commission for a couple of weeks while the floor is done.

“If you love Grille 26, you can still dine as normal in the dining room — and remember you can use Open Table for reservations — but it’s also a great time to do a to-go order or revisit our family-style menu,” Bashore said.

Grille 26’s new summer features menu is a popular one with guests too. These seasonal flavors include strawberry balsamic bruschetta, a barbecue brisket pizza, shrimp or fish tacos, a banh mi and grilled mahi mahi.

Finish it off with a slice of tres leche cake served with fresh berries, vanilla whipped cream and toasted coconut.
