Sweetgrass Soapery to shift business away from downtown storefront
Nov. 14, 2025
A downtown store that offers bath and beauty products and Native American beadwork will close before Christmas but continue offering its line of handcrafted wares online and at vendor events.
Sweetgrass Soapery and All Walks Trading Co. opened in March 2021 at 319 N. Main Ave. Owner Miranda Koltze said that closing the storefront will give her more time to make Sweetgrass’ small-batch herbal care products such as soaps and bath bombs using herbs, essential oils and in-house rendered fats.

“We love our location, and it’s just perfect for us in every way except I didn’t have a space to make while I was at the shop,” Koltze said. “It hurt my production time. I prefer to be making my products and handling my own first business.”
Koltze also wanted more time with her family.

In an announcement on Facebook, she wrote: “My priorities have really shifted, and I am valuing my peace, my family time and my slow intentional methods of making medicine. I have learned that being tethered to the shop is not my goal.”
In addition to the soaps, made the cold-process method, the downtown Sioux Falls shop includes All Walks Trading Co., featuring Native-made beaded jewelry, star quilts and culturally important herbs and tools. Those items will continue to be available in the online store.

Customers who enjoy smelling the variety of scents that Sweetgrass Soapery offers will continue to have an in-person option, Koltze said. A 10-year vendor at the Falls Park Farmers Market, Sweetgrass Soapery is taking part in the new indoor market for winter. It will open for the first time from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Mosaic Arts & Events, 500 N. Main Ave. It also will be open on selected Saturdays through April.
“A lot of folks are pretty concerned that we’ll just be available online,” Koltze said. “The farmers market is another great way we can reach our customers.”
Between making products for Sweetgrass Soapery, operating a brick-and-mortar store and collaborating with local artists and consignment accounts for crystals, beaded jewelry, blankets and art for All Walks Trading Co., Koltze was operating three businesses, she said.

Soon, she’ll be able to focus on making soaps and other items such as bath salts and teas. Many of the ingredients come from her 8-acre farm near Sioux Falls, which is chemical-free. Ingredients that don’t come from the farm are locally sourced.
“One thing that has been absent from my line for a while because of time restrictions is bath bombs,” Koltze said. “I’m looking at that and also the possibility of getting into some natural makeup.”

Until it closes on Dec. 24, Sweetgrass Soapery will be open from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fridays, 3 to 7 p.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays.
