Shenanigans Sports Bar & Grill announces ownership change
Jan. 3, 2025
Shenanigans Sports Bar & Grill has a new owner with a background in the restaurant industry.
The restaurant at 1903 S. Ellis Road changed hands from founders Don and Jean Rose to Brandon native and restaurateur Paul Ode.
“I remember going back to Shenanigan when it was in the mall,” Ode said in a statement. “There’s a nostalgia to it. It’s built a great neighborhood reputation. It’s just a good spot.”
The Rose family started the bar and grill in 1986.
Their son, Andy, will remain as general manager.
“It’ll be a transition from working with my family for 20 years but really excited to have Paul on board,” Andy Rose said. “I think it’s going to be a really good thing. We’re excited to keep everything the same but with some new twists and some tweaks here and there to keep everything rolling for another 20 years.”

It’s important to the new owner that the restaurant’s loyal customers know they’ll continue to be a valued part of the business, Ode said, adding that he’s committed to maintaining the business’s slogan “Where Friendly People Meet.” It also will continue to host live music and other events.
“I didn’t buy into it to make a bunch of change. That friendly face is still here, and that’s important. In this neighborhood, everybody knows the Roses,” Ode said. “The same hospitality, the same welcome that the Roses have established, we’re going to keep that moving forward because it’s special to the customers and it’s special to the employees.”
Discussions of a sale began in the second half of 2024, according to Ryan Tysdal, vice president of commercial real estate at Van Buskirk Cos., who brokered the deal.
“It’s great to see such a cherished Sioux Falls mainstay end up under the ownership of a well-run restaurant group,” Tysdal said. “Shenanigans is in good hands with Paul.”
Ode also left open the possibility of bringing Shenanigans to other areas of the city.
Ode and his family are involved in a number of restaurants, including Crawford’s and Wagoo Burger in downtown Sioux Falls, along with a future concept coming to Phillips Avenue.
