Sanford Health donating land, up to $5M for new Lutheran school

Sanford Health will donate 30 acres for a new Sioux Falls Lutheran School and match up to $5 million in donations.

“This gift looks back to the heritage of Sioux Valley Hospital’s roots as a Lutheran hospital and forward to Sanford Health’s priority of supporting children and families in this community,” Sanford president and CEO Kelby Krabbenhoft said.

“We also wanted to support the tremendous effort of Sioux Falls Lutheran School donors in raising $2.6 million in the first year of this capital campaign.”

A location for the school hasn’t been determined.

The school was founded in 1977 and serves 300 students from age 2 through eighth grade. It’s located at 308 W. 37th St.

“On behalf of the school board and the school association, Sioux Falls Lutheran School is thankful for a gift that will truly help finish a decades-old dream of a new facility,” school board chair Scott Peters said.  “This gift in support of our generous donors will truly be a capstone to a preschool program that has been among The Local Best for 10 consecutive years and a kindergarten through eighth grade program that was recently named a National Lutheran School of Distinction.”

A 32-acre site plan includes space for athletic fields and a future high school.
