Restaurant Roundup: Wings and more wings, weekend breakfast returns, new farmers market

July 20, 2023

Oppa Chicken has added a new flavor for its Korean fried chicken. Barbecue is the new sauce for the regular and boneless wings, which are thin-battered and fried twice to give them a light crispiness. The sauce is brushed on by hand, so it’s not too heavy. Other choices are honey garlic, soy garlic, cheesling, mayo, sweet spicy and hot spicy. The restaurant also has added a small size with eight pieces and increased the medium size to 16 pieces and the large to 24. There’s also a new combo with wings and drumsticks, and a new entree of crispy chicken with steamed rice. Here’s a look at the new menu.

The BOGO special on chicken wings is back at Buffalo Wild Wings for a limited time. The offer on traditional wings is good on Tuesdays for dine-in orders.

Famous Dave’s has new smoked wings that feature Kurvball Barbecue Whiskey. Flavors are sweet glaze and heat glaze. There’s also a new Memphis dry rub. They’ll likely be available through August.

Papa Johns has added boneless wings to its menu. They’re available in the same flavors as the regular wings: no sauce, hot lemon pepper, buffalo, barbecue and honey chipotle. They also come with dipping sauce with a combination of Italian flavors.

The weekend breakfast menu at Overtime Grill & Bar has returned after being discontinued at the beginning of the year. There’s a breakfast sandwich, burrito, pizza and scrambled breakfast bowl. The bar has a full liquor license, so in addition to mimosas, diners can order a bloody mary with several vodka choices. Breakfast is served from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday and Sunday.

Overtime also has added a lunch menu with sandwiches for $9 and salads for $10. There’s also a country fried chicken option with tenders, mashed potatoes and country gravy for $9. The sandwiches come with chips. Get other sides for an additional cost. Lunch is served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays.

Sunny’s Pizzeria has always offered a special on pizzas on the birthday of its namesake. Sunny, the French Bulldog died in March, but the restaurant is still marking what would have been his 13th birthday. On Saturday, get $3 off any pizza. If you order online, use the code “birthday.”

A new weekly farmers market opens Friday at the Country Apple Orchard on the west side of Harrisburg. Hours for the Harrisburg Market at the Orchard are 4 to 8 p.m. Along with fruits and vegetables from the orchard, vendors will be selling salsas, jams, spicy candy, freeze-dried treats, microgreens, leafy greens, herbs, locally roasted coffee, plant-based foods, fresh-cut flowers and locally made items such as custom laser-cut and etched items, stained glass, cold-processed soaps and custom graphic t-shirts and accessories. In addition to vendors, there will be live music, along with a beer garden and a featured food truck every week. Picnic tables will be set up for people to enjoy the event. Starting Sept. 1, the market — minus the live music — will be incorporated on Fridays into the free portion of the orchard’s Fall Festival, which runs through Oct. 27.

Cherry Rock Farms south of Brandon has started regular hours. The store at the produce farm is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Chick-fil-A is competing again this summer against Scheels to see who can collect the most school supplies to donate to kids in need. The two businesses are collecting new items through July 31. Donate at Chick-fil-A to get a free meal. At Scheels, donors will be entered into a drawing for a gift card.

Miracle Treat Day is Thursday, July 27, at Dairy Queen. Participating restaurants in the chain donate $1 or more of every Blizzard sold to local Children’s Miracle Network hospitals.

The next Sioux Falls Supper Club will be July 26 at Laurel Ridge Barn, northeast of Sioux Falls. Chef Lizzie Stewart hosted the first event in June at Chef Jeni & Co. Tickets are $130 and include a four-course meal and welcome cocktail. Stewart grew up in northwest Wisconsin and remembers going to a supper club on most Saturday nights. Typically, they’re in a rural setting, so Stewart is looking forward to moving the monthly events out into the countryside. Get tickets at cheflizzie.com.

The Bunker Bar in Harrisburg has updated its daily specials.

Taking a fresher approach, Subway has started slicing some of its meats in-house. That includes turkey, ham, pepperoni and salami.
