Restaurant Roundup: Opening day takeover menu, new flavors

March 25, 2021

If you missed a chance to try the Marketbeat Burger during the Downtown Burger Battle or want to eat it again, here’s your chance. Chef Lance’s on Phillips is putting together a special menu for opening day of Major League Baseball, which is  April 1. The restaurant is expanding hours and will be open all day from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. with the Marketbeat Burger and special baseball-themed foods taking over the entire menu. Summit Brewing is doing a tap takeover too, with featured pairings lined up. Reservations can be made at cheflance.com.

Intoxibakes took the fun of a funfetti shooter – the dessert version of a shot – and put it in a cupcake. The bakers infused strawberry cream liqueur, white chocolate liqueur and birthday cake vodka in the cupcake and buttercream. The funfetti cupcake is in the daily rotation, but Intoxibakes suggests calling ahead to make sure they’re not sold out.

Fernson Brewing Co. is selling its Skip Day hard seltzer in new variety 12-packs. They include four flavors: black raspberry, fruit punch, orange pineapple and cherry bomb. Find them now at Fernson Downtown and next week at retailers.

While you’re at Fernson Downtown, check out the new menu offerings. Crispy brussels spouts are fried and served with crispy garlic, Calabrian chili, herbs and lemon. The pork chop on a stick is a grilled, bacon-wrapped loin chop with a barbecue rub and IQ sauce. Chicken on a stick is marinated grilled chicken tenders with a sweet and spicy soy glaze, scallions and yum yum sauce.

MacKenzie River Pizza Grill & Pub has two additions to its Foodie Fare menu. The Sonoran hot dog is a quarter-pound all-beef hot dog wrapped in hickory-smoked bacon with pinto beans, pico de gallo, mayo, green chile sour cream and queso fresco on a savory bolillo roll. Seafood campechana features grilled shrimp, crab surimi, pico de gallo and avocado in a spicy cocktail sauce with blue tortilla chips for munching.

The food truck My Place Mobile Cafe is adding a restaurant in Montrose, and owner Maxine Montreal is raising money for new chairs by selling take-and-bake pans of lasagna. Get a half-pan that serves up to four people for $23 or a whole pan for $45. Dinners come with garlic bread. Order by 5 p.m. April 1 by calling 605-759-0176. The food will be ready for pickup April 9 and 10 at the future My Place Montrose Cafe in the historic bank building. A Sioux Falls pickup point might be an option, Montreal said. See details here.

Sioux Falls Food Tours is having fun when there are five Saturdays in a month. Those dates will be dog-friendly tours. Owner Dana Wohlwend will guide guests on a tour of selected breweries and restaurants downtown, with the humans enjoying food and drink, and the dogs getting treats at each stop. Only 10 humans and 20 dogs will be allowed. Registration has started for the first event, which is May 29.

The seasonal Bunny Hop is back at Lava’s Coffee & Cafe in Harrisburg. The frappe has white chocolate and marshmallow flavor with crushed Cadbury eggs mixed in.

Take note: Tarquin Argentinian Restaurant will be closed Saturday and Sunday “to commemorate and meditate about the memorial of Jesus Christ’s death.”
