Feb. 16, 2023

Let It Fly is adding a Sunday brunch buffet, starting this weekend. It will be served from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with both breakfast and lunch items. Diners will find traditional egg and breakfast meat options, along with eggs Benedict, breakfast pizza, yogurt partfaits, pastries and an omelet station. Lunch-type foods include pizza and traditional wings stations, a taco bar, salads, mac-and-cheese, chicken strips and fries. The price is $18 for those 13 and older, and $8 for age 6 to 12. Bottomless mimosas are $15 and there’s a monster bloody mary for $25.

MacKenzie River Pizza, Grill & Pub will be closed Sunday through March 19 for renovations.

We told you last week that Parker’s Bistro has started its expansion project. The restaurant will be closed for about two weeks, beginning Monday, while a new kitchen hood is installed and the original space gets a face-lift. While that work is happening, Parker’s is doing a pop-up experience at Icon Event Hall. It will serve a five-course, Mexican-themed tasting menu Feb. 23 through March 2. Reservations are required.

The new Crumbl Cookies at Dawley Farm Village is giving away a free chocolate chip cookie to every customer Friday. Hours are 8 a.m. to midnight. Show that you’ve downloaded the Crumbl app to get the cookie. “If your little bakers don’t have phones, still bring them in. If they’re nice, they may still get a free cookie,” the bakery said on social media. Get the details here.

Sunny’s Pizzeria has a couple of new foods and a couple of returning favorites. The new Kenny Blankenship starts with the new “Kamikaze Sauce,” topped with mozzarella, pepper jack, pepperoni, ham, pineapple, jalepenos and red pepper flakes. My Big Fat Greek Pizza is back, along with Tato Munchers, which are breaded potato nuggets with cheddar cheese and jalapeno. The pizzeria also has started serving Garlic Cheesy Bread for $3 a slice.

Monks Ale House has a new pizza feature that’s available this month. The Chicken Spinach-Artichoke Dip Pizza has housemade spinach-artichoke dip as the base, Monks’ classic cheese blend, chicken, oregano and diced tomatoes.

If you didn’t make it out for a special Valentine’s Day dinner, the featured offerings at R Wine Bar & Kitchen are available until the end of the month. Appetizer: Prosciutto Wrapped Melon. Entree: Osso Buco. Dessert: Red Velvet Creme Brulee.

The Patriot Grill in The Alliance at West and Russell has added several items to its menu. New burgers include the “self-award winning” Flat Iron Steak, Black & Blue and the Fire. New sandwiches include turkey bacon melt, patty melt, cod, grilled or crispy chicken, French dip and Philly cheesesteak.

Chief’s Bloody Mary Mix, a creation of Waddy’s Bar in Hudson, was invited to compete last weekend at The Bloody Mary Festival in Austin, Texas. It took second place in the people’s choice award for bottled products in both of the sampling sessions.

Friday is one month away from St. Patrick’s Day, and McNally’s Irish Pub is having its annual St. Practice Day. Happy hour is from 3 to 3 p.m. with 20-ounce Irish taps and Killbeggan Irish Whiskey for $5 and Dublin Tea for $6. The Shamrockers will play from 7 to 11 p.m.

The food truck Tacos de Gringo has been operating on a limited schedule through winter, and customers can find it Friday and Saturday nights for a pop-up at a Harrisburg bar. It will be at The Bunker Bar, the former On the Rocks, from 6 to 10 p.m. both nights. Diners will have a chance to try some of the new items owner Ken Leonard has been crafting. Try the Southwestern Fire Burger, Birria Burger or Loaded Nacho Fries. A limited amount of wings will be available, and “chili heads” can try the housemade Cry Home to Mama habanero wing sauce. There will, of course, be tacos too.

Tickets are available for Saturday’s ninth annual Sioux Empire On Tap at the Sioux Falls Convention Center. Almost 100 breweries will be there offering samples of their craft beers. VIP and afternoon session tickets are sold out, but they’re available for the 5 to 8 p.m. session for $53. Get details and tickets here.

Remedy Brewing Co.’s annual Brunchfest is Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Get an all-you-can-eat brunch for $16. “All the cool kids show up in their onesie pajamas,” the brewery said on social media. Here’s the lineup for this year’s beers: Red Beer, Espresso Beer, Beermosa and Vanilla Chai Stout.

Taverns + Tots, a food truck that started last year, has bottled its Tavern Simmer Sauce, and it’s available now at the Hy-Vee on Minnesota Avenue. Free samples will be offered from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Severance Brewing Co. and Tenacious Dog Training are teaming up to offer classes to teach dogs good brewery manners. The class is three weeks long and runs from 12:15 to 1 p.m. Feb. 26, March 5 and March 12. Dogs must know basic skills, and humans must be at least 21. Registration is required.

Changes in hours, service

Starting Saturday, Leonardo’s Cafe in the Washington Pavilion is expanding hours, and it will be open every Saturday. Hours will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday. During breakfast hours, it will serve baked goods and coffee. It has been open only for lunch on weekdays.

This is the last Sunday to eat at Chef Lance’s on Phillips, and diners will need reservations. New hours will be 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. In November, the restaurant dropped lunch hours and added Sunday dinners.
