Restaurant Roundup: Holiday treats & drinks, new grab-and-go

For December, Mary’s Mountain Cookies is selling its roll-out sugar cookie dough in 2-pound tubs so you can make your own holiday cookies at home.

The bakery also has decorating kits with a dozen unfrosted sugar cookies in holiday shapes with a tube of buttercream frosting and three containers of holiday sprinkles.

The new Umami Cafe & Catering has added a grab-and-go section that’s open daily. Recent offerings included a mac-and-cheese bake with ham and broccoli in individual and family-size portions, turkey and corn chowder in 16-ounce containers and a BLT croissant. Hours are 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. in the lobby of Signature Flight Support, which is north of the terminal at the Sioux Falls Regional Airport.

Gateway Bar & Grill will open at 8 a.m. Saturday for the American Outlaws watch party for the next USA team appearance in the World Cup. Special menu items include biscuits and gravy and breakfast pizza. The game starts at 9 a.m.

Stop by Olive Destination on Friday for the specialty grocery shop’s annual Wine, Sip & Shop event. Sample wine and appetizers while listening to live holiday music with Holly VandenBerg on the piano. Shop for wine and premium-grade olive oils and vinegars. Hours are 2 to 6 p.m.

Stensland Family Farms is continuing its customer appreciation events with holiday samples from 3 to 6 p.m. on Saturday. Private chef Kyle Adams, who recently started Chef Kyle’s Table, will be at the West 41st Street location making holiday dishes with Stensland products. There will be appetizers, cheese curds, pasta dishes and dessert to sample. Recipe cards and champagne also will be available. The store will be stocked with holiday goodies along with its regular products. Holiday shakes – gingerbread, eggnog and peppermint – also have been added to the menu.

Brosia Bowl has added bread bowls as an option for its soups. Get a bread bowl filled with one of the rotating flavors of soup for $10.

Sunny’s Pizzeria in the EightyOne Arcade Bar has started delivering pizzas to customers at the nearby Glacial Lakes Distillery & Brewhouse.

Bring your furry pet to WoodGrain Brewing Co. Saturday for a photo and the release of Murray Christmas. The winter warmer ale is named after the lead brewer’s dog – that’s him in the photo below. Photographer Kelcey Schroeder will be taking portraits from 1 to 5 p.m. for $30, with half of the proceeds going to the Sioux Falls Area Human Society. The brewery also is hosting a food drive for the animal shelter. Check here for preferred cat and dog food.

QBIC Luxury Picnics and Chef Ellen are teaming up for The Art of Gathering packages. The events will include a cooking class and meal for four, six or eight people. The price is $99 per person. “We will do an appetizer of pear prosciutto and goat cheese puff pastry, learn knife cuts with minestrone soup, use hand-crank pasta rollers to make the pasta for a from-scratch pasta bolognese, and finish the meal with a simple-elegant cannoli poke cake,” Chef Ellen Doerr said. Golf Addiction has added new items to its menu. Southwest egg rolls are the most popular addition, said Calvin Bronzynski, one of the managers at the indoor golf simulator range. They have diced chicken, bell peppers, onion and corn. Canadian bacon has been added as a topping for the pizzas, which are made to order, he said. There’s also a new pizza: the Stingin’ Honey Garlic. New sandwiches include chicken cordon bleu and Italian melt. New wing sauces include garlic parmesan and gold barbecue.

Harrisburg Treats’ freeze-dried Skittles are available now at SoDak Soda.

Coffea Roasterie has released its list of winter drinks: Lumberjack Latte, White Chocolate Mocha, Peppermint Mocha and Peppermint Hot Chocolate.

Here’s a special treat for the holidays. Zooks Coffee Bar in Tea is featuring Cultivated in Love’s Christmas treat boards. Customers can call to order a board to ensure availability. They also can be ordered to go for holiday events.

And Zooks has released the first phase of its holiday drink menu: maple cinnamon toast, gingerbread, gingerbread chai, frosted mint and amaretto mocha lattes and theWinter Minter frappe.

Wendy’s has a new Peppermint Frosty for the holidays. It replaces the Strawberry Frosty, which was part of the summer menu. The Chocolate Frosty is still available. Frosty Key Tags are available too. Get one for $2, and enjoy a free Jr Frosty with a purchase every day for a year. Eighty-five percent of every keg tag sold goes to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.

Obscure Brewing Co. is offering the Twelve Beers of Christmas, a festive mix of new beers and taproom favorites. Pre-orders are being taken for the limited offering.

Applebee’s has $6 Sleigh Bell Sips for the season. The Tipsy Reindeer features top-shelf Smirnoff Vodka, cranberry, tropical and citrus flavors. The Berry Merry Colada is a frosty blend of Captain Morgan, melon, coconut and strawberry.

PAve has started Country Night on Thursdays. Get half-priced drinks, and listen to country music with a live DJ from 9 p.m. to close.

Changes in hours, service

  • 22Ten Kitchen & Cocktails has new hours for winter, which include the return of Wednesday dinner service. Hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
  • Poppy’s Popcorn Co. has added Sunday hours for the holiday season. It will be open from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday for the next three weeks.
  • The Combine in Garretson has new winter hours: 4 p.m. to close Tuesday through Friday and 11 a.m. to close Saturday and Sunday.
  • Taqueria Suyapa, a food truck stationed in Tea, is staying open as long as possible this winter and has new hours: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.
  • Power Plate Meals has dropped its Sunday hours.
  • Fancy Bowl is closed until Dec. 10 for a kitchen update.
