Restaurant Roundup: Free shave ice, new entrees

Stop by Polar Bites at the 41st Street location on Friday for a free small shave ice. Why? Because it’s Free Shave Ice Friday. Hours are 3 to 9 p.m.

R Wine Bar & Kitchen has two new menu items. Tortellini amore is garlic, shallots and local mushrooms sauteed with halved cherry tomatoes and toasted pine nuts in a pecorino cream sauce and topped with fresh Parmigiano Reggiano. The Peppercorn Pork Tenderloin is served with honey garlic sauce and roasted asparagus.

Outback Steakhouse has introduced The Dine Under Menu with prices starting at $17. Some of the new entrees include a bone-in ribeye with Aussie Cab Onion and seasoned butter, BBQ Chicken Bites, Garlic Parm Chicken Bites and a sirloin with lobster mac-and-cheese. The new Croc-Tail cocktail comes with a toy crocodile to keep.

Attention NBA fans: Starting May 24, Caribou Coffee is offering an app-exclusive beverage in support and celebration of hometown team the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The ‘Timberwolves Crunch’ is a special take on a Caribou classic, the Turtle Mocha Cooler. Blended with turtle mocha pieces for some added ‘crunch’, the beverage is inspired by the Wolves’ mascot, Crunch. Try it through Monday, June 3 on the Caribou Coffee app at participating locations.

Critters Bar in Crooks has added broasted chicken. Diners can order two- or four-piece dinners with seasoned potato wedges, baked beans and a dinner roll, or chicken only in two or four pieces or buckets of eight, 12, 16 or 20.

Critters also is open now on Fridays for lunch, starting at 11 a.m. Lunch is served until 2 p.m. Last week, the bar started with a single menu item — Indian tacos – but that’s going to expand to a larger menu in the future. No timeline was mentioned in the social media post.

Central Dakota Perk locations in Harrisburg and Tea have a full “Friends” specialty menu that’s available all the time.

Seven food trucks have joined together for the third annual Golden Food Truck Ticket drawing. Like each truck’s Facebook page, and share the video found on their pages for a chance to win a $25 food voucher from each truck. The winner will be chosen June 3. Participating trucks are Black Iron Waffles, Curbside Delights, Fat Kid Filly’s, Hunny & Bunny, Rudy M. Navarrete’s Tex-Mexican Catering, Tacos de Gringo and Windy City Bites.

Godfather’s Pizza is helping raise money for Mission-Haiti through its Slice of the Pie fundraising night. Twenty percent of all sales made from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday will go to the organization. Be sure to mention Mission-Haiti when ordering.

The traveling food truck On the Hook Fish & Chips will be back in Sioux Falls this weekend. Find it from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of the west-side Menards. And you might find On the Hook’s new custom sodas, which are being rolled out. They are made with cane sugar and served “ice cold” in a glass bottle.

TC’s Referee Sports Bar & Grill has a new summer drink menu.

Changes in hours, service

  • Falls Overlook Cafe is starting summer hours: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.
  • With new summer hours, SoDak Soda is open one hour earlier and one hour later Monday through Saturday. It opens at 10 a.m. and closes at 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
  • Baking up a Storm has new summer hours: 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
  • Phnom Penh Restaurant will be closed Saturday through Tuesday.
  • Southern Perfection BBQ food truck will be closed until May 30 to spend time with family before the busy summer season.
