Restaurant Roundup: Free fries, river water beer, new wraps

Swamp Daddy’s Cajun Kitchen has switched up its hand-cut fries with a different potato variety and a new process. In honor of today’s National Potato Day, the restaurant is celebrating by offering fries for free with orders of $10 or more through Saturday.

Feeling adventurous and wanting to support clean water? Remedy Brewing Co. and Friends of the Big Sioux River are releasing a beer made with Big Sioux River surface water. The process started with 240 gallons of river water that was cleaned, and the remaining 120 gallons were used to make 4 barrels of El Rio, a Mexican-style ale. The beer will be released at noon Saturday on tap and in crowlers at the downtown taproom. All proceeds will benefit Friends of the Big Sioux River. The two collaborated earlier this year on a similar beer for Earth Day.

Jimmy John’s has a couple of new summer wraps. The Chicken Caesar comes in a garlic and herb wrap with seasoned chicken, lettuce, tomato, mayo, creamy Caesar dressing, parmesan cheese, ranch seasoning and mini croutons. The Beefy Ranch has hand-sliced roast beef, bacon, cheddar cheese, onion, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, mayo, ranch dressing and mini croutons in a flour wrap.

The lunch buffet at Kathandu Indian Cuisine has returned. It’s open from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. daily. The restaurant is at 5310 E. Arrowhead Parkway in a retail center across from Walmart. It features several entrees, salads and dessert. Each table gets a basket of naan. The price is $14, and it comes with chai tea.

With the start of school, new hours begin this weekend for Parlour Ice Cream House. It will be open only three days a week. Hours will be 4 to 10 p.m. Friday, noon to 10 p.m. Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday. Sept. 5 will be the final day for the season.

Gateway Bar & Grill is setting up a big-screen TV outside for a watch party for Friday’s Sioux Falls Little League game in the Little League World Series in Pennsylvania. The South Dakota team takes on Louisiana at 4 p.m. There will be a 50/50 raffle to support the team, and $1 of every Monster Burger sold will go to help with travel expenses.

McCrossan Boys Ranch is starting Food Truck Fridays at its visitor center. Stop by from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to eat and learn more about the programs for at-risk youth. Eat outside, take it to go, or enjoy eating in the visitor center. Tour the museum, and visit the gift shop. Here’s the lineup: Aug. 20, Breaking Burrito; Aug. 27, Berkes BBQ; Sept. 3, to be announced; Sept. 17, The Big Orange Food Truck; Sept. 24: Ma & Pa’s Burgers; Oct. 1, Backyard BBQ. There won’t be a truck Sept. 10.
