Restaurant Roundup: Cookie pies, Chick-fil-A scavenger hunt, new sushi, free coffee

Cookie Co. has introduced cookie pies. “Think cookie bars but baked in a 9-inch pie crust,” the bakery said in a post on social media. Flavors are chocolate chip, double chocolate chip, sea salt caramel, birthday cake and peanut butter. Orders must be placed 24 hours in advance. They’re $20 and will serve eight to 10 people, depending on the size of the slice.

Chick-fil-A at Empire Place is celebrating its second anniversary in Sioux Falls with free food and a scavenger hunt. Next week, each day Monday through Friday, it will post clues on social media about the location of a hidden morning medallion and an afternoon medallion. Bring it to the restaurant for a prize, and earn a chance to win Chick-fil-A for a year. On Monday, 5,000 customers will get a voucher for a free menu item. They’ll be given out randomly with orders.

Pomegranate Market has added grab-and-go sushi, boba tea and has made other menu additions in the bistro. The health food grocery store now carries Ace Sushi, with about a dozen daily sushi options. There are three flavors of boba: tiger, matcha and Thai. The bistro also added more sandwich options like a turkey BLT, mushroom and Swiss burger and a smoked salmon bagel. In addition, breakfast, which is a variety of burritos and sandwiches on bagels and egg muffins, is served all day.

Customers can get a free brewed coffee every day for the rest of the month at Scooter’s Coffee. The Scoot on Around special is good at participating locations while supplies last and does not include extras such as flavored syrups and whipped cream.

Crumbl Cookies, which rotates five of its six cookie flavors every week, has a bunch of new cookies so it’s introducing at least one of them every week. Through Saturday, those offerings are Brown Sugar Cinnamon featuring Pop-Tarts and Guava Cake.

Like to get up early and go out the breakfast? The Phillips Avenue Diner has new early bird specials from 7 to 10 a.m. Monday through Thursday. The cheapest one is $9 for toast, two eggs and fresh fruit, and the most expensive plate is $12 for the Chorizo Scrambler. Each meal comes with a free cup of coffee. Here are the six options:

The final Food Truck Friday at McCrossan Boys Ranch is this week. Wagoo Burger will be there from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Charlie’s Pizza has new weeknight specials. Monday: Get any small pizza and one pint of draft beer for $10, any medium pizza and two pints for $20 or any large pizza and a pitcher of beer for $30. Tuesday: Buy any large pizza and get a medium one-topping pizza for half-price; two for one domestic pints. Wednesday: Half-price Guenoc house wines with any food purchase. Thursday: Buy a large specialty pizza and get a free medium cheese pizza; $5 domestic beer pitchers and $7 for premium beer. Specials are not available for online or DoorDash orders.

Remedy’s Brewing Co.’s seventh annual Oktoberfest is Saturday. It’s free to attend, but you’ll have to pay for Bierfest, which is a three-hour sampling of 30 local seasonal craft beers with limited tickets, and to compete in the stein holding competition. Throughout the day, there will be live music and games like pumpkin bowling. The Home Brew Fest from noon to 3 p.m. includes free samples. The Saucy Boyz in the Remedy kitchen have crafted a special menu with German Meatballs, Currywurst Bites, Beer Brat Sandwich, Pork Schnitzel Sandwich, Keep’n It Fraiche Flatbread and a Giant Pretzel with beer cheese spread and beer mustard. The Sports Cabin in Garretson is celebrating Oktoberfest Saturday. The bar will serve imported Hofbrau beer and serve German food. Games include a brat-eating contest, stein-holding competition, pretzel toss, key relay and more. There will be German attire contests and live music from 6 to 9 p.m.

Noodles & Company has introduced its first baked menu item. The new Chicken Parmesan features penne noodles topped with crushed tomato marinara, Parmsan-crusted chicken and mozzarella, garnished with parsley.

Three seasonal cookies are on the menu at Mary’s Mountain Cookies: pumpkin chocolate chip, espresso with caramel macchiato frosting and German chocolate with coconut pecan frosting.

Order the United Way Dozen at Flyboy Donuts and the business will donate $6 to the Sioux Empire United Way.

Oh My Cupcakes is looking for a cupcake design to feature for Halloween. Pick up an entry form at either bakery or find a link to download one here. They must be submitted by the time the stores close Oct. 6. The winning design will be part of the Halloween lineup, and the winner will get a dozen cupcakes with their design. The Breaks Coffee Roasting Co. is hosting its third annual latte art throwdown Sept. 28. Doors open at 6 p.m., with the first pour at 7 p.m. The entry fee is $10 for baristas. It’s free to watch the competition. Coffee, beer, wine and nonalcoholic drinks will be sold, along with food.

Zooks Coffee Bar in Tea has added fall drinks to the menu, leaning into pumpkin flavors in several drinks but also offering a cookie dough chai tea latte and a roasted hazelnut latte.

Changes in hours, service

  • Queen City Bakery’s kitchen staff headed to Paris for a sabbatical, so once the stock of baked goods runs out, customers will find only coffee, tea, granola parfaits and oatmeal on the menu. The team is  expected to be back to baking Sept. 29. Thursday morning, there were still tea cakes and cookies available. A daily drink special is being offered, ranging from lattes to iced drinks. Wednesday, it was a Honey Nut Cheerios Latte.
  • Obscure Brewing Co. has new hours for fall: 4 to 10 p.m. Tuedsay through Thursday, 3 p.m. to midnight Friday, 1 p.m. to midnight Saturday and 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
  • Pinz in Dell Rapids has new hours: 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. A limited menu is served after 9 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday.
  • Uncle Ed’s Specialty Meats is closed through Monday.
  • Cultivated in Love owner Landi Schweigert is back from maternity leave and is taking orders again for charcuterie boards.
