Restaurant Roundup: Cajun cooking, burger tasting menu, beer bread

Jan. 19, 2023

22Ten Kitchen Cocktails has a Taste of New Orleans featured menu that’s available for lunch and dinner through Feb. 21.

The team at Harvester Kitchen by Bryan is back from its early January vacation and is unofficially joining in the Downtown Burger Battle fun with a tasting menu of burgers that it’s calling #burgerkerfuffle. It includes everything from yellowfin tuna and Iberico pork to chicken and lamb. There’s actually a beef one too: the Prime Beef Rossini Burger. Finish it off with a chocolate cake burger.

Breadsmith is partnering with Remedy Brewing Co. for a special bread this month. Get loaves of Remedy Spent Grain Bread every Friday in January. It addition to the brewery’s spent grain, it’s also includes Remedy’s Antarctic Legion Beer. Guarantee a loaf by ordering online.

Parlour Ice Cream House has a new lunch special through Feb. 20. Buy a meal combo, which includes a sandwich, soup and chips, and get a second one for half-price. Lunch is served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays. The offer is good for dine-in only.

Intoxibakes’ new ovens have arrived after the initial replacements weren’t working properly. The bakery in the Jones421 Building is open while crews are getting them ready and working on the wallboard and electricity.

Kabab King doesn’t have a new owner after all. The Mediterranean restaurant and market closed in late December, and owner Moe Fares announced in January that he had sold the business. The deal didn’t go through, Fares said earlier this week. He’s planning to return to operating a food truck this season.

McNally’s Irish Pub is hosting the 24th annual Burns Night on Saturday. The tribute to Scottish poet Robert Burns kicks off with a happy hour from 3 to 6 p.m. The traditional address to the haggis will be at 6:30 p.m., and Dakota District Pipes & Drums will play at 7 p.m. In case you’re wondering, the traditional Scottish dish of haggis usually includes an animal’s minced heart, liver and lungs combined with oatmeal, onions, suet and seasoning, and is boiled by using the animal’s stomach as a cooking bag.

Changes in hours, service

Monks Ale House is scaling back its lunch hours because of “unforeseen staffing issues.” The craft beer taproom added lunch to expand opportunities to try its entry in the Downtown Burger Battle. Monks continues to open for lunch at noon Thursday through Sunday. It opens at 3 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.

Inca Mexican Restaurant will be closed through Jan. 25 because of a kitchen remodeling project.

The Breaks Coffee Roasting Co.’s annual winter break begins Monday and runs through Jan. 30. Its customer-favorite featured drinks from last year, Ginger Mola$$es and Matcha Man Randy Savage, are available again until Feb. 2.
