Restaurant Roundup: New lunch spots downtown, featured menus, expanded offerings

Dec. 29, 2022

The monthlong Downtown Burger Battle kicks off in January. A few businesses are expanding hours to accommodate interest in the competition, and a couple of taprooms without kitchens are bringing in food trucks this year for collaborations. Thirty-two restaurants are participating this year.

Remedy Brewing Co. will be opening earlier every day in January. The brewery will open at noon. Remedy’s Burger Battle offering from the kitchen crew, aka The Saucy Boyz, is called The Rimedio, which is Italian for “Remedy.” It’s a twist on an Italian beef sandwich. The full menu also will be available all month.

Monks Ale House also is opening earlier during the week next month to serve its Downtown Burger Battle entry. New hours starting next week are noon to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday, noon to 2 a.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to midnight Sunday. Its Burger Battle offering is The Griddy, “an homage to the traditions and legends of the Land of 10,000 Lakes.” It’s a Juicy Lucy-style stuffed burger made from a patty blended with Minnesota wild rice and mushrooms from Dakota Mushrooms. Other menu items will be available for lunch too.

Falls Overlook Cafe typically closes until spring once Winter Wonderland shuts down at Falls Park, but it will be open some evenings in January to participate in the Downtown Burger Battle. Hours will be 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. Stensland Family Farms operates the cafe, so its entry, The BCB, features the creamery’s colby jack and garlic cheese curds. A few other menu items also will be available.

For the food trucks to the rescue in the competition, Covert Artisan Ales & Cellars is featuring Windy City Bites with a Greek-style burger, and Glacial Lakes Distillery & Brewhouse is bringing in FadeAways with a New York-style hoagie.

New features have arrived at Roundhouse Brew Pub. Start with Buffalo chicken dip, and end with creme brulee. Entrees include chili cheese fries; fried beef tacos; the Brewpub Burger with a smashed patty, beer cheese, bacon jam and onion rings on a pretzel bun; and the Chicken Bowl, two hand-breaded chicken tenders on a bed of mashed potatoes, gravy, fire-roasted corn and cheddar cheese.

The new Bill of Fare featured menu at both Attic Bar & Grill locations includes pizza dip, a butter chicken bowl, short rib sandwich, lobster truffle tortellini, Thai peanut pork loin and hot cocoa cake.

Parlour Ice Cream House has added homemade hot chocolate and apple cider to the evening menu. Winter hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays, 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, and 6 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Don’t throw away your Christmas tree just yet. If you’re looking for an adventurous way to get rid of it, A Homestead Brew is having its annual burn party Jan. 7. Add it to the bonfire, and enjoy a craft beer by the fire. The brewery east of Sioux Falls is open from 2 to 9 p.m. that day.

Boss’ Pizzeria & Sports Bar and O’Toole’s Casino & Bar in Tea have added to their offerings. Boss’ has expanded carryout hours and added delivery through DoorDash, both from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. every day. Full-service hours in the pizzeria are 4 to 10 p.m. O’Toole’s is open now from 9 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily. The casino added 10 video lottery machines for a total of 20 and has started serving a free lunch for players from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays. The menu changes daily: Monday, hot dog bar; Tuesday, taco bar; Wednesday, hot beef with gravy and mashed potatoes; Thursday, pizza bar; and Friday, sloppy joe bar.

Take-and-bake meals are back for winter at Stensland Family Farms’ retail stores. Limited quantities are available each week beginning on Wednesdays. They’re available in the refrigerated case and will move into the freezer as the days pass. Each meal serves two to three people. Offerings will change, but here’s what’s available this week: Creamy Chicken & Stuffing, Smothered Chicken & Spanish Rice and BBQ Pork Mac ‘N Cheese.

Glacial Lakes Distillery & Brewhouse has started bottling cocktails to go. Recent offerings included Negroni, vanilla bean vodka and vodka lemonade.

Changes in hours, service

  • Remedy at 611 has gone into “hibernation mode.” The second taproom for Remedy Brewing Co., which is in its production facility on West Avenue will be closed until March. “In order to revamp, expand and enhance the 611 experience, Remedy at 611 is going into a brief ‘hibernation’ for the next few months,” Remedy said in a post on social media.”We aim to reopen for the Summit League series in early March all ready to go for the incoming spring and summer!” It will be open for a comedy showcase scheduled for Jan. 19.
  • The new Oppa Chicken is back to serving its initial opening menu of fried chicken and appetizers through January. It tried expanding to its full offerings a few days after opening Dec. 19, but with a limited staff, wait times have been too long, the restaurant noted in a post on social media.
  • C.H. Patisserie will be closed for a winter break Monday through Wednesday.
  • Reminder: Saturday is the last day for Watecha Bowl and BB’s Pub N Grill at their current locations. Monday is the last day for Josiah’s Coffeehouse Cafe & Bakery before it closes to begin a two-week kitchen remodeling project.
