A new food truck specializing in all-day breakfast will open this week in a permanent spot on Kiwanis Avenue.

Lacey Haagenstad bought the trailer from her brother-in-law, Alex Koltze, who operated it last year as Chizlickers. She worked with him near the end of the season at the Falls Park Farmers Market.

Haagenstad has renamed the trailer The Night Owl, and it will be based at the Food-N-Fuel at Ninth Street and Kiwanis Avenue, across from Thunder Road. Operating from there is a homecoming for the trailer. Before Chizlickers, it housed Taqueria Juanita for a couple of years in the gas station’s parking lot.

The Night Owl’s city inspection is Friday morning, and Haagenstad is planning to open that day.

“I grew up in a cafe, so I’m going to do a lot of comfort food,” she said of her made-from-scratch menu items. “I’ll put my own spin on things.”

Her version of a breakfast sandwich will be on fry bread with bacon, egg and jam, and “you can add syrup if you want to.” Haagenstad will put a spin on nachos and use tater tots with breakfast-style toppings. She’ll make biscuits and gravy, along with breakfast burritos and quesadillas.

Lunch will include menu items like sliders, grilled cheese and BLTs on fry bread, and taco salads.

Her cooking style is inspired by her heritage. She’s an enrolled member of the Three Affiliated Tribes and also has Norwegian ancestors. She grew up eating German food.

Some of those German specialties will show up like fleischkuekle, or little meat pies, and knoephla soup, which is made with potato dumplings.

Haagenstad said she’ll start with hours of 10 a.m. Tuesday through Sunday, staying open until 10 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Her sister, husband and the oldest three of her five children will help, she said.
