Restaurant Roundup: Breakfast pizza, west-side EggSmack, free doughnuts

Starting this month, Invictus Pizza Kitchen is turning its occasional breakfast pizza offerings into a regular event. Every first Friday of the month, create your own breakfast pizza from 7 to 11 a.m. Other offerings include jumbo caramel rolls and mimosas.

The EggSmack menu that Wagoo Burger served at Fernson Downtown will be available starting this weekend at the west-side Shenanigans Bar & Grill. The menu will be served from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. The downtown Shenanigans began offering EggSmack in May after Wagoo left Fernson.

Celebrate National Donut Day on Friday at the new Yonutz at 2802 W. 41st St. Until 2 p.m., get a free mini doughnut with a purchase. Starting at 3 p.m., the first 50 guests will get a free big doughnut, and at 7 p.m., the first 50 people will get a free Simply Smashed Doughnut.

Buddies & Co. in Brandon is celebrating National Donut Day on Friday by giving away a doughnut with the purchase of any drink, while supplies last. The shop also is open now on Mondays for the summer and starts serving drinks an hour later – 8 a.m. – Monday through Saturday.

Tinners Public House has decided to extend its monthly featured menu for food and drinks to all summer. The new offerings will be available through August.


Crooked Pint Ale House has a new features menu for summer.

Dahlia Kitchen + Bar’s taco of the month is Thai Peanut Shrimp. Tempura fried shrimp is tossed in Thai peanut sauce and served with Oaxaca cheese, pineapple slaw and chopped peanuts.

Next door at Big Sioux Burger, the burger of the month is Caprese. Two smash patties on griddled ciabatta are topped with basil pesto, fresh mozzarella, marinated tomatoes and balsamic glaze.

The June special at R Wine Bar & Kitchen is Shrimp Pad Thai with shrimp, scrambled egg, bean sprouts, chives and rice noodles tossed in Thai stir-fry sauce, topped with roasted peanuts and served with a wedge of lime.

At sister restaurant Mirabella Ristorante, the monthly feature is Burrata Arancia. The cheese is served with orange, drizzled with olive oil and topped with almonds and mint.

Tarquin Argentinian Restaurant is featuring several evenings with special meals and live music this month. June 9: Churrasco Night. June 16: Pasta Guita y Al Dente Night. June 23: Seafood Mar del Plata Night. June 24: Pork Schnitzel Night. June 30: Gnocchi Night. Each meal is $25 and comes with a glass of wine.

The monthly special for June at Gibs Sports Bar is the Queso Burger. Two 5-ounce never-frozen patties are topped with Inca’s queso, bacon, shredded lettuce, tortilla chips and fresh jalapeno on a pretzel bun. The burger comes with your choice of side for $18.

Goodcents is switching up its feature this month with a pasta instead of a sub. Get Buffalo Chicken Pasta for $8.

The margarita of the month at Casa del Rey is The Plankton. The green drink has 1800 Blanco Tequila, triple sec, fresh lime juice, cucumber juice and agave with Tajin seasoning on the rim of the glass and a cucumber slice garnish.

Brandon-area businesses are competing in the second annual Brandon Valley Area Beverage Battle. Competing are A Homestead Brew, B&G Milkyway, Bottoms Up, Buddies & Co., Chuds, Kingbird Coffee, Scooter’s Coffee, The Gruff Plate + Pours and the VFW. As part of Foster Appreciation Day on Saturday, Severance Brewing Co. and 334-RENT from Lloyd Cos. are treating the first 100 fosters to a free pint and the next 150 a half-price pint. Hours are noon to 3 p.m. Local animal rescue organizations will be there, along with vendors selling pet-related products and Lloyd staff members sharing about pet-friendly housing options.

If you missed The Barrel House’s new annual gathering last weekend, sister restaurant Krav’n is having one too. The Patio Party will feature a feast starting at 5 p.m. Saturday. The kitchen crew is smoking a whole pig and making side dishes. Freewill donations will go to Hungry Hearts to help buy school lunches for students in need. There will be all-day specials on beer from Kona Brewing, patio games, live music from 7 to 10 p.m. and fire dancers at dusk.

The Dog Days of Summer have arrived at Stensland Family Farms. The next monthly event that celebrates four-legged friends will be Thursday, June 12. Stop by from 5 to 8 p.m. for a free pup cup with any purchase. Future dates are July 10 and Aug. 14.

Pancheros Mexican Grill is offering half-price entrees from 2 to 5 p.m. every Wednesday in June to loyalty members.

Ball games are part of summer in Dell Rapids, and Pinz is offering families a takeout special. From 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, get four cheeseburgers, fries and sodas for $40. Additional meals are $10. Chicken strips can be substituted for a burger.

Altered Species Ales has a new special. Whenever it’s raining at the brewery and taproom at the Western Mall, pints of Swimming Frenzy are $5. The fruited summer ale changes flavors every so often. The discount will be available through Labor Day.

Popeyes has added chicken wraps to the menu for a limited time. A warm tortilla is stuffed with a chicken tender, lettuce, shredded cheese and pickles with a choice of classic, spicy or honey mustard spread. They cost $4 each. The national chain also has a summertime lineup of blueberry lemonade and teas.

If you’re a fan of Spam, it has been added to the options at HuHot Mongolian Grill for a limited time. The restaurant also has introduced its Golden Ladle Sauce contest winner, Hawaiian Sunset with a sweet barbecue flavor.

The owners of the Ziggi’s Coffee franchise in Sioux Falls opened a Brookings location this week. Michael and Liz Minor are offering promotions June 9-15 to introduce the beverage lineup to the community. On Tuesday, 20 percent of all sales will be donated to Margo’s Place. Unlike the stand-alone drive-thru and walk-up location in Sioux Falls, the Brookings coffee shop is in a new apartment building at 1130 Main Ave. S. and offerings seating inside, along with a drive-thru.

- Phillips Avenue Diner has new hours for summer: 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday and 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
- For summer, Ode to Food & Drinks is now open on Monday and Tuesday from 4 to 10 p.m. The kitchen is open with a limited menu from 5 to 9 p.m. Other hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.
- Fernson Downtown will be open by reservation only this weekend for the soft opening of Totally Rad Eats.
- Breadico has extended hours on Saturday to 4 p.m.
- Steak-Out has a new website for online ordering: steakoutdelivers.com.
