Restaurant Roundup: Bing-flavored desserts, new featured menus, charcuterie & popsicles pop-up

June 22, 2023

Anything Twin Bing-flavored draws a fanatical response in the Sioux Falls area — think Avalanches at B&G Milkyway, ice cream at Stensland Family Farms and beer from Fernson Brewing Co. The next possible hit? Chef Ellen is selling homemade Bing Truffles and Bing Cheesecake. The cheesecake has a brownie bottom packed with peanuts, a layer of chocolate cheesecake and a layer of cherry cheesecake that’s topped with milk chocolate, peanuts and cherry buttercream.

The summer Bill of Fare featured menu at The Attic Bar & Grill has arrived. Among the offerings: Salmon Power Salad with pan-roasted salmon, quinoa, baby spinach, edamame, heirloom tomatoes and a white balsamic vinaigrette; and the Jerk Chicken Plate with a Jamaican jerk chicken breast, coconut rice and red beans, mango chutney and fried plantains. For dessert, there’s a combo cheesecake/cake with blueberry cheesecake and strawberry cake from The Cake Lady. There’s also a brisket sandwich and shrimp tostadas.

Cultivated in Love is putting on the Pop-Up & Popsicles shop from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at 524 N. Main Ave. Owner Landi Schweigert will be selling small charcuterie boxes – individual sizes and ones for two to three people — and s’mores boxes that she notes will be great for taking over to the Levitt at the Falls concert that night. In addition to all the ingredients, her s’mores boxes will come with a sterno, matches and sticks for making treats without a campfire. Her daughters, Eiley and Kiyah, will be selling big freeze pops in more than a half-dozen flavors, she said.

Four new entrees, including a fry bread taco, and a dessert are on the Summer Sensations featured menu at the Phillips Avenue Diner.

Fans of the original Dive kitchen in The Gaslight Lounge, which closed at the end of May, will be happy to hear that the Nashville Chicken and Classic Chicken sandwiches are now on the menu in the new location in Park Ridge Galleria.

The Washington Pavilion announced several changes for its cafe this week, and fans of Oh My Cupcakes who live or work in or near downtown will be happy to hear that the cupcakes are returning to the heart of the city after a four-year absence. The WP, formerly known at Leonardo’s Cafe, will sell several varieties.

The traveling food truck Vuture Foods will be back in Sioux Falls on Saturday. The “vegan junk food” crew will be set up from noon to 4 p.m. at Covert Artisan Ales & Cellars. The Chick’n patties are made with soy, wheat and peas; the fries are made with gluten-free ingredients. Here’s a look at the menu.

Credo’s Pub changes up its daily specials every now and then. Here are the latest offerings.

The Patriot Grill in the South Dakota Military Heritage Alliance has categorized its daily buffet to give customers a better idea of what might be served that day. Here’s the new lineup.

Here’s a tasty activity while the kids are home from school this summer. Sinless Sweets is offering Daily Decorating tables. For $10, kids – and adults — can decorate their own gluten-free baked goods. Daily Decorating hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

Ass’ociates & Co. at the east-side Attic Bar & Grill has a featured drink menu. Loving the nod to the Grimace’s birthday, which was June 12. The McDonald’s character turned 52.

Carnaval Brazilian Grill now sells natural coconut water in an actual coconut that you can take home. Customers also can order any drink of their choice and have it served in a coconut.

There’s still time to try the Tex-Mex items at Ruby Tuesday. The featured menu ends Monday.

Changes in hours, service

  • Monks Ale House is no longer serving food on Mondays and Tuesdays until further notice  because of a staffing shortage. Hours are 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
  • Central Dakota Perk Coffee & Catering in Tea will be closed on Sundays and Mondays for the rest of the summer break. The drive-thru shop in Harrisburg will remain open those days.
