You’ll need to eat more than one burger every day in January to try all the entries in this year’s Downtown Burger Battle.

The 12th annual competition features 40 burgers and runs the entire month, presented by POET and Downtown Sioux Falls Inc.

“While many know us as a global leader in biofuels, we also produce 14 billion pounds of animal feed ingredients each year, making this event a natural fit for POET. We’re proud to supply livestock farmers in South Dakota — and all over the world — with high-quality, plant-based protein to produce the beef that ends up on our tables. At POET, we’re proud to call Sioux Falls home, and our involvement in events like the Burger Battle allows us to invest in our community, support local businesses and be a part of a growing tradition that brings family, friends and neighbors together over great food.”

With 40 burgers competing, the 2025 Burger Battle has three more restaurants than last year. The list also includes several restaurants that opened in downtown in the past year, including BibiSol, Big Sioux Burger and Dahlia Kitchen + Bar.

The restaurants will attempt to dethrone Crawford’s Bar & Grill, which has won for the past two years.

Burger lovers can try the restaurants’ creations, then cast their votes on the following categories: flavor, patty, toppings, bun and presentation, using the DTSF Digital Passport App. The restaurant with the highest average score at the end of the month will be crowned the Downtown Burger Battle Champion.

There were more than 32,000 votes counted last year through the DTSF Digital Passport app.
