Poke Picks rebrands downtown, decides against opening two more locations

March 15, 2020

A Japanese-Hawaiian fusion restaurant is reopening this week downtown with a new name and an updated menu.

Fancy Bowl, which opened in mid-January as Poke Picks before closing a couple of weeks ago for a remodel, is reopening again with a new menu offering some of the same poke and sushi options with additional ramen noodle meals.

The different menu called for a different name, said Poke Picks owner Kent Chan. Chan said his business partner, Eason Chen, will run the downtown restaurant.

Chan also said he’s no longer planning to open previously announced Poke Picks locations on East 10th Street and at The Bridges at 57th.

He said on further reflection he didn’t think the restaurant was a good fit for 10th Street, where he’d previously leased the former Taco John’s location. And with the existing location near 41st Street and Western Avenue, he thought 57th and Western was too close.

“(We have) no plans for a restaurant,” Chan said of the 57th Street location.

Further north at the existing restaurant on Western Avenue, Chan is preparing for patio season and said new menu items, including barbecue, will be available for outdoor diners soon.

An exact opening date for Fancy Bowl has not been set. Plans were delayed by Monday’s snowfall, Chan said.
