Pizza trailer hits the road ahead of restaurant opening

April 5, 2019

Papa Woody’s Wood Fired Pizza has started to take its trailer out for the season and plans to park occasionally in front of the downtown building where it will have a bricks-and-mortar location.

“We’ll try to be down here one or two times a week until the store opens,” said Lisa Esser, who owns the business with her husband, Steve Blumke. “We’re still shooting for May 1.”

The couple is leasing a space in the marketplace of the Jones421 Building on Phillips Avenue north of Sixth Street. Electricians and plumbers are working in the future restaurant, and the wood-fired oven from France should arrive soon.

“We’re moving along,” she said.

The couple will continue to operate the trailer for private parties and special events. Esser updates a calendar on Papa Woody’s website, so customers know where to find the trailer or what dates are open. She also posts on social media when they’re out serving lunch.

Papa Woody’s also provide catering, setting up pizza, baked potato and salad bars.

For First Friday, Papa Woody’s will be parked outside WoodGrain Brewing Co. at Ninth and Phillips and will start serving about 6 tonight.
