DocuTap to merge with Illinois-based company

April 6, 2019

Sioux Falls-based DocuTap is merging with a competitor based in Illinois.

Practice Velocity also operates as an IT provider in the on-demand health care industry.

“As passionate competitors we pushed each other to deliver our best every day. This made us both stronger and brought us to where we are today,” DocuTap said in a post on its Facebook page. “Now, we’ll be bringing our top talent and big ideas together to make an even greater, positive impact on patient-centered care.”

The merger requires regulatory approval.

“Merging gives us the ability to accelerate innovation in the industry and respond to the biggest problems facing consumer-focused health care today,” the companies said in a joint statement. “With this merger, we combine our expertise to power the patient-centered health care revolution, offering a complete suite of on-demand health care solutions that help our clients maximize revenue and reach their goals.”

DocuTap has about 250 employees in Sioux Falls. Global private equity firm Warberg Pincus acquired a majority stake in the company in 2016.

Eric McDonald formed the company in 2000.  It provides software for electronic medical records, practice management software and revenue cycle management for urgent care and primary care clinics.
