Carhartt fans: There’s a new store for you.

Nyberg’s Ace Hardware has opened Nyberg’s Dakota Workwear just north of its store at 41st Street and Minnesota Avenue.

The new workwear store is in a former medical supply business in a retail center just north of McDonald’s.

“We’re very excited,” owner Kevin Nyberg said. “We wanted to get it open with the cold weather this week. Signage is going up, inventory is continually coming in, so we’ll have a grand opening in a few weeks.”

The 7,000-square-foot space allows for expanded inventory, including a women’s line.

There are a variety of Carhart jackets, tops and pants for women.

Plus, the store is filled with one of the brand’s trendiest items: winter hats.

“In the fashion industry, if you look around you’ll see all kinds of people buying Carhartt stocking caps,” Nyberg said. “Actually the other day I was on the sales floor, and there were girls from O’Gorman High School looking for Carhartt stocking caps.”

The new store is stocked with them, in a variety of colors and styles.

And the classic men’s workwear is still there too, including safety-related apparel and footwear.

Nyberg started the Dakota Workwear line in the store at 41st and Minnesota about seven years ago, and “it’s done very, very well,” he said. “This time of year is the best time and, of course, construction season, when people are looking for the right type of workwear.”

Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

The space that’s being freed up at the store — about 5,000 square feet — will be used to expand the inventory of grills and grilling supplies, Nyberg said.

“That’s a huge focus,” he said. “For us, grilling is 365 days, and we’ll be expanding Green Egg, and Weber is coming out with a new grill that’s unbelievable. Blackstone has taken on a whole new meaning of grilling, and we have Traeger, so we’re wanting to be dominant in grilling, and this will do that.”
