New sensory play gym sets grand opening date

July 8, 2025

A long-awaited inclusive space for young people to play has announced its opening date on the east side of Sioux Falls.

We Rock the Spectrum, which was originally set to open in March, will hold its grand opening from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

The sensory gym is at 3224 E. 10th St. in the Dacotah Town Centre, east of Hy-Vee. It’s open to kids with all abilities but designed for kids living on the autism spectrum.

Franchisee Tanya Davis gets emotional thinking about the end of a long journey.

“There has been a lot of excitement, support from the community and people who haven’t been here yet expressing gratitude for bringing something like this to Sioux Falls,” Davis said.

“We started the journey because our oldest son needed it, and I know others in the area needed it, from my past experience as a teacher, but I didn’t realize how many families it would benefit. It has been great to see before we even get anyone in here.”

The gym includes specific sensory toys and activities for kids on the autism spectrum and kids living with any kind of neurodivergence, or whose brains process information differently.

The gym also features an event space, toy shop, room for music lessons and a preschool for 3- to 5-year-olds starting in the fall.

“It’s important to be inclusive and have a safe space where kids can come be themselves and meet others,” Davis added.

The grand opening event is $14 per child for open play with food, music, discounts on packages and treats sponsored by My Brother Rocks the Spectrum Foundation.
