This week’s Up-and-Comer is Brock Allen, who founded Elite Contracting in June.

Name: Brock Allen

Age: 28

Hometown: Vermillion

What brought you to Sioux Falls?

Seeking new opportunities for my family and I.

What keeps you in Sioux Falls?

I stay in Sioux Falls because I have a great opportunity to do something great and help people with the kind of work I do. This city offers people a great opportunity to make a name for yourself and to be successful; you just have to go out and have the will to put your nose down and work. That’s how I go about it.

What made you decide to start a business, and what has your early experience with it been like?

I wanted to be my own boss and experience the entrepreneurial lifestyle. So far, it has given me some adversity, but overall it has been great, and I am so happy I chose this lifestyle. We are a residential and commercial construction company. We do a little bit of everything. I have over a decade of experience in the construction field. I am looking to get my name out there and potentially get some more work to grow the business as fast as I can.

How did you get connected to your industry?

I have been in the construction industry since I was 14 years old.

Describe your business in three words.

Reliable, trustworthy and hardworking.

What is something someone might be surprised to learn about you?

I am a dedicated individual that pushes past obstacles to grow and learn from what I endure.

What’s one business you’d like to see in Sioux Falls that isn’t here now?

More options for indoor play with children during the winter months.

If you had $1 million to start a business, what kind of business would it be?

Other than my company, I’d have to say a real estate company.
