Minnesota native finds quick start to career in finance, development with Sioux Falls move

July 5, 2023

This week’s Up-and-Comer is Kellen Erpenbach, financial analyst II at Lloyd Cos.

Name: Kellen Erpenbach

Age: 24

Hometown: Norwood Young America, Minnesota

What brought you to Sioux Falls?

A start to my career with Lloyd Cos. I had family and friends in the Sioux Falls community that always spoke highly on the opportunity for young professionals in Sioux Falls. I also had a handful of former college friends/teammates that were here that made it an attractive spot socially.

What keeps you in Sioux Falls?

A few main things keep me in Sioux Falls. The first two things I mentioned above for what brought me here also keep me here: the professional and social opportunities. Everyone in Sioux Falls knows we live in a tight-knit, thriving business community. Socially, I enjoy golfing in my free time and the vibrancy that downtown has to offer when hanging out with my girlfriend and friends. Another really cool aspect of Sioux Falls is that people have a sense of pride and feel proud to live in this city, which is pretty cool.

What’s your favorite thing about your job?

My favorite part about my job is that I work for a company and with people who are upbeat and cultivate a positive, familylike culture where we strive to improve quality of life in the communities that we serve. In development, there are always challenges that arise that we get the privilege to conquer.

How did you get connected to your industry?

Similar to what brought me here: close family and friends that have had some success investing in the real estate business, attributing much of their success to this particular city.

Describe your workplace in three words.

Cultivating, energetic, family.

What is something someone might be surprised to learn about you?

I have two nieces and a nephew that are age 3 or under.

What’s your favorite way to give back to your community?

Any sort of community volunteering that I can do is great; if it involves youth athletics, that’s a bonus point.

What’s one business you’d like to see in Sioux Falls that isn’t here now?

Raising Canes!

If you had $1 million to start a business, what kind of business would it be?

Oof, good question. I am always pondering what business I might be able to start, and since I have yet to think of one or put one into action, I would take the $1 million and invest it into a real estate asset at this time. When I do have a compelling idea, then maybe I can shift some of that cash over.
