Lewis Drug featured in ‘Chain Drug Review’

From staff reports

Lewis Drug’s continuous focus on innovating to meet customers’ needs is the focus of a profile in Chain Drug Review.

The industry publication featured the Sioux Falls-based retailer as it celebrates its 75th anniversary this year.

“Over those 75 years, we’ve reinvented ourselves numerous times,” CEO Mark Griffin said in the story, “and today we have another opportunity to do so.

“Amazon has really disrupted the retail business. Young people, the 18- to 35-year-olds who were the core customers for regional malls, are now going to the internet to do their shopping. The brick-and-mortar side of retail is going to go through a revolution, not an evolution, and we have to be ready for it.”

Lewis has grown to 55 stores and is working on several new ones, including a revised version of its longtime store at 41st Street and Minnesota Avenue, which is being rebuilt in a smaller format a few blocks north of the current site.
