Lake Lorraine offers growing number of on-the-water activities

July 7, 2021

Pedal boats are the newest addition at Lake Lorraine this season, joining a growing number of activities offered on or near the lake.

Flow and Paddle has helped bring many of those more diverse offerings.

Owner Cassandra Willett started the business three years ago. Back then, the business moved from lake to lake in the Sioux Falls area, but Lake Lorraine has become a home base for the past two years.

“It is a private lake, so no one is out there unless they are with us,” Willett said. “It is a crystal-clear lake. A lot of people like it more than all of the algae-filled lakes around town.”

Flow and Paddle offers a variety of on-the-water activities, ranging from kayaking to yoga classes.

“We have always had rentals for the kayaks, but the pedal boats are new to us this year,” Willett said.

“I have two yoga classes: a gentle flow and a vinyasa flow,” she said. “We also offer a SUP 101 (stand-up paddleboarding) class, which is basically a beginners class; paddleboard rentals; and the Paradise Pad, a stand-up paddleboard that easily accommodates eight paddlers.”

Before renting equipment, beginners must take an instructional course with Willett.

“To be eligible for rentals, you do have to take one of my classes, whether it is a SUP 101 or a yoga class. They all come with on-land instruction.”

With each rental, participants are provided with a flotation device, leash, paddle and whistle. It is recommended to bring water, sunscreen, sunglasses and a towel.

“We also offer a SUP and SIP at Lake Lorraine,” Willett said. “We do it at The SandBar on Tuesday nights at 7 p.m. I am also about to start up another one on Thursday nights, where we would actually go to the Hyatt Place right there on Lake Lorraine.”

Flow and Paddle is located at Westlake Drive and Terry Avenue.

Online reservations, walk-ups and paddle passes are offered at Flow and Paddle. Prices range from $20 to $90, and times range from 60 to 120 minutes. There also is availability for groups, parties and events.

Flow and Paddle also typically offers a guided river tour, but the water levels are too low.
