Haunted warehouse to open for 2 nights in May

A haunted warehouse attraction north of Sioux Falls is celebrating “halfway to Halloween” with two nights of horror.
Terror 29 will be open May 21 and 22.
“In October, people are looking for haunted houses, so it will be interesting to see” what the crowds are like, owner Zach Tenneboe said. “But horror fans love haunted houses regardless of when they are.”
The attraction is in a warehouse on the northwest corner of the Interstate 29 exit for Renner, and the themes for the scares play off of the industrial setting along with a “healthy dose” of clowns.
“We’ve added a couple of new things that weren’t there in October,” Tenneboe said. “There are different actors and characters as well. That alone gives it a different vibe and experience.”
On average, it takes about 10 minutes for the tour, he said. “Some people get scared and just run through. … Some people might spend 15 minutes paying attention to the details in each room.”
Tenneboe opened the haunted house in 2019 and was able to operate for Halloween 2020 with modifications because of the pandemic. Those precautions will remain. Scareactors will wear face masks, and visitors are encouraged to have one. High-touch surfaces will be sanitized between groups.
“We’re still doing timed ticketing too,” Tenneboe said. “That worked out super good in October.”
Visitors can still buy tickets at the door, but timed ticketing eliminates long lines, he said.
This is the first time Tenneboe has opened the haunted house outside of Halloween, but it likely will be the only time until October because of all the work needed to get ready for then.
“June, July and August is when we do the bigger renovations. … We’re always trying to keep it fresh and different.”
The gift shop and memorabilia display, which have new items, also will be open.
The haunted house at 25753 Cottonwood Ave. will be open from 7 to 11 p.m. May 21 and 22. Tickets are $13 and can be purchased at Terror29.com.
