Griffiths to transition from DSU president to chancellor next year
Oct. 7, 2025
Dakota State University President José-Marie Griffiths will step away as president and take on a new role as chancellor after this academic year.
The new position was “created to support Dakota State’s well-known cyber programs on a national level,” the South Dakota Board of Regents said in a statement.
Since becoming president in 2015, Griffiths has led DSU “through a decade of growth and achievement,” the board said, adding that she:
- Established Dakota State as a national leader in cybersecurity education, research and partnerships.
- Expanded academic programs and student enrollment, particularly in technology and cyber-related fields.
- Secured significant federal and state investments to enhance DSU’s research capacity and workforce development efforts.
- Advanced collaborations with government, military and industry partners, positioning DSU as a hub for innovation in cyber operations and defense.
“It has been the honor of my career to serve as president of Dakota State University and to work alongside our dedicated faculty, staff and students,” Griffiths said. “DSU has built a national reputation in cybersecurity and technology, while still maintaining our close-knit campus community. I look forward to continuing to champion our cyber mission as an ambassador, helping Dakota State write its next chapter of success.”
Regents president Tim Rave praised Griffiths’ leadership and lasting contributions to the university and the state.
“President Griffiths has transformed Dakota State University into a nationally respected leader in cyber education and research,” Rave said. “Her vision created opportunities for students, strengthened South Dakota’s workforce and elevated the state’s role on the global cyber stage. We are grateful for her years of service and look forward to her continued involvement in advancing DSU’s mission.”
Griffiths’ final year as president will focus on “student success, academic excellence and innovation as she concludes her final year of academic leadership,” the statement said. “While preparing for her new role, she will continue to expand DSU’s reach and global influence in the constantly evolving field of cybersecurity.”
