Giving Back for March

March 29, 2024

Giving Back recognizes businesses and organizations that are helping our communities. Here’s a look at who gave back for March.

Direct Companies

Direct Companies donated an estimated $60,000 in office furniture to EmBe after acquiring Workplace IT Management. The furniture supports EmBe’s downtown expansion. “We reached out to some of the nonprofits Workplace supported, and this worked out really well and was awesome timing as they were finishing the expansion,” CEO Paul Zweifel said. “We just wanted to make sure it went to a good place with someone who could use it.”

Emily’s Hope

Emily’s Hope has received a $78,000 grant from the South Dakota Opioid Settlement Fund Community Grant Program. The funding will support development of the Emily’s Hope 6-12 Substance Use Prevention Curriculum, an extension of the organization’s K-5 curriculum. The new curriculum aims to broaden the organization’s reach and impact, targeting students in grades 6 through 12 across South Dakota and the United States.

KFC Foundation

The KFC Foundation, based in Louisville, has awarded LifeScape with a $10,000 grant to purchase a workforce readiness curriculum for its Pathways to Life school. Pathways is a transition-to-adulthood learning program for 18- to 21-year-olds with disabilities. The curriculum, Project Discovery, is evidence-based and designed to retain students through high school by engaging their interest in career paths. Its second aim is to provide job-ready candidates for the workforce. The KFC Foundation seeks to support, empower and serve joy to KFC restaurant employees and communities, carrying on the legacy of charitable giving of KFC founder Col. Harland Sanders. One of its main areas of philanthropy is education.
