Full-time or side gig, these three jobs (usually) won’t feel like work

April 29, 2021

This paid piece is sponsored by JJ’s Wine, Spirits & Cigars.

Whether you’re looking to start down a career path or just pick up some “fun money,” you need to check out these three openings at JJ’s Wine, Spirits & Cigars.

“We have a nice variety of positions available right now,” owner Tom Slattery said. “We’re busy, we’re growing, so we’re able to be very competitive not just in what we offer our team but with the environments where you get to work.”

For the seasonal music-lover

Is your schedule for summer filled with outdoor music? You might as well get paid to be there.

JJ’s runs the beverage service for Levitt at the Falls and needs beverage servers.

Seriously, all you need to do is show up, count money and listen to basic directions.

And along the way, you get to hang out at the Levitt and enjoy the music.

“This can be a good fit for people who don’t necessarily need a job but want to have some fun,” Slattery said. “Don’t look at this as a way to pay the bills. Look at this as a way to meet people and have fun and get paid.”

You’ll need to work at least 12 to 15 concerts out of 36 Levitt shows. They’re Friday and Saturdays in June and September and Thursday through Saturday in July and August.

It’s a four-hour shift, you typically arrive at 5:30 p.m., and you’ll make at least $60 plus tips.

“It really is not difficult, and the pay is really good,” Slattery said. “We just need you to be able to listen to directions, show up and enjoy live music outside and enhance the guest experience.”

Think about it: Your Friday-night shift could pay for a pretty nice Saturday night out. Not bad, right?

Apply by stopping at JJ’s at 3000 W. 57th St.

Event beverage servers

Ready to up your game a bit? JJ’s also needs beverage servers for the many special events it hosts.

“This is for people who have gained a little more skill and are familiar with how events work from a beverage perspective,” Slattery said.

These shifts also aren’t long, maybe three or four hours once or twice a month.

“It depends how much you want to work,” Slattery said. “You don’t need to pick up more than one or two events a month, and you can combine it with working at Levitt shows.”

You’ll also get to be part of memorable moments, from weddings to corporate and social events – while taking home a nice paycheck – anywhere from $20 to $30 per hour with tips.

“Women especially have found a fit here,” Slattery said. “If you’re a stay-at-home mom looking for something fun to do or a professional looking to expand your networking, they will meet a lot of people in these event situations.”

And don’t feel like you need tons of experience – the seasoned JJ’s team is ready to help you along the way.

To apply, stop in the store at 3000 W. 57th St.

Bartenders and cocktail servers

Ready to make your role at JJ’s the next step in your career?

There’s really never been a better time.

There are openings for bartenders and cocktail servers that are a great fit for people with food service or cocktail and bartending experience.

“We can hire multiple people because we’re that busy,” Slattery said. “The money is great. Our bartenders are averaging $23 to $30 an hour, and most are full-time positions.”

This is an especially good position for “people with experience who are interested in helping move us in the direction of being a destination for fine food and really good drinks,” he added.

“There absolutely will be opportunities for you to grow with us and have a lot of fun with a great team along the way.”

To apply, stop in JJ’s at 3000 W. 57th St.
