A meal on the go, in the bistro cafe or catered to your next event is waiting at the new downtown location for Pomegranate Market.

The grocery store, which includes a bistro, is on the first floor of The Clark building, 350 N. Reid Place, at the Cherapa Place development.

Park for free for two hours in the ramp off East Sixth Street and walk directly into the store. There, you’ll find everything from rotating international cuisine to handmade bakery creations and a full catering menu.

Here’s a look at some of the options.

Taqueria, world bowls

Chef T.R. Fuentes-Mckenzie first wrote the menu for this fast-casual taqueria and world bowl concept as something for a food truck operator in Minneapolis. When that person opted not to operate, it became a win for Sioux Falls diners.

“I had this menu of world fare tacos, but I didn’t necessarily want to do Mexican proteins,” Fuentes-Mckenzie explained.

“You can choose a flour or corn tortilla, but also a mini naan or pita, and our proteins include things like a chicken shawarma, banh mi pork, chipotle barbecue pork, a cauliflower tinga as the vegan option and a chicken curry.”

There also are options for a more basic shredded chicken or pork, plus your choice of toppings.

The same cuisine can be made as a rice or quinoa bowl or salad.

Stop by on Wednesdays and enjoy $2 off for World Bowl Wednesday, when all burritos and bowls are $10.99.

Hot bar buffet

The international flavors continue at the hot bar buffet, which currently is offering a rotating menu each week. Different weeks feature Mexican, Cajun, Indian, Italian or Mediterranean cuisine. This week is Mediterranean.

Make your own plate or to-go box, and pay by the pound.

“I want you to feel like you came over to Grandma’s and there’s a feast,” Fuentes-Mckenzie said.

It’s offered for lunch and dinner, and served at a discount the last hour of the day from 6 to 7 p.m.

Salad bar

Pomegranate Market’s signature salad bar is offered at its new downtown location as well as the original store at 57th Street and Louise Avenue.

“We’ve created a bunch of new composed salads for downtown,” Fuentes-Mckenzie said.

“There’s only one potato salad that came from Louise. Because everything is world fare downtown, I went with some salads from around the world, so you’ll find an udon noodle cold peanut salad, a Moroccan couscous, and then you’ll still find lettuce and vegetables like you will on Louise.”

Three made-from-scratch soups are offered, including “one omnivore soup, one vegan or vegetarian soup and one world fare soup,” he said.

Breakfast and burgers

Find breakfast sandwiches and burritos made fresh to start your day at Pomegranate Market.

“The sandwiches come on our housemade focaccia with local meat like Dakota Craft Links chorizo,” Fuentes-Mckenzie said.

Breakfast is served from 7 to 10:30 a.m. Monday through Saturday. On Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the hot bar becomes a brunch buffet with options such as quiche, egg dishes, breakfast potatoes and ham.

After a successful Downtown Burger Battle, the rest of the bistro’s burger menu also has launched.

“Our regulars are very excited about that,” Fuentes-Mckenzie said. “We’ll continue to evolve our sandwich program and anticipate more menu additions coming up.”

Grab-and-go

Looking for food or beverages on the go?

Try a rotisserie chicken — they’re antibiotic-free, hormone-free and air-chilled.

“These chickens are just a chicken. Olive oil and our spice blend is the only thing on them,” Fuentes-Mckenzie said. “They’re quite good — the best rotisserie chicken I’ve personally had — and you can choose a whole or half chicken.”

Another popular seller to go is cake — “we have a really good chocolate cake, and our vanilla bean and espresso cheesecakes have been top sellers,” he said.

“I also encourage people to try the curry chicken salad or Napa chicken salad in our grab-and-go.”

The Groove Wellness Bar offers a broad menu of hot beverages, smoothies, sodas and juices.

“We have a clean-soda program along with hot drinks from Coffea and many popular smoothies,” Fuentes-Mckenzie said.

And don’t miss the bakery, where banana bread, zucchini bread and a chai-spiced pound cake have been popular.

“Our blueberry muffin is our No. 1 seller, but we also have apple cinnamon and vegan cranberry orange muffins and cookies, including a vegan peanut butter and an oatmeal candied ginger cookie that’s been popular,” Fuentes-Mckenzie said.

Pomegranate Market is fully operational with its catering services and ready to support your next business or social event.
