Former Augustana baseball player stays in Sioux Falls for career in commercial property management
April 14, 2026
This week’s Up-and-Comer is Will Olson, property manager at NAI Sioux Falls.
Name: Will Olson
Age: 27
Hometown: Omaha
What brought you to Sioux Falls?
After graduating high school, I had the opportunity to attend Augustana University and compete on the baseball team. Growing up in Omaha, I knew a little bit about Sioux Falls. I went on visits to multiple schools, but Sioux Falls felt so much more like a place I could call home after graduating.
What keeps you in Sioux Falls?
My wife, ha! Sioux Falls is a growing community with so many great opportunities for young professionals. Sioux Falls has felt like a tight-knit community since I moved here in 2018. It definitely isn’t the winters.
What’s your favorite thing about your job?
People. I have the opportunity to work with a diverse range of businesses and property owners, ensuring each building supports our tenants and clients’ objectives. On top of that, there is a wealth of knowledge and expertise in our office that I get to learn from each day.
How did you get connected to your industry?
My parents worked in banking and real estate (when I was) growing up, so I had a general idea of the industry. After graduation, I still wasn’t sure what I wanted to do professionally. I found a job posting in real estate/property management that interested me and applied. Several years later, I now work in commercial property management at NAI Sioux Falls, and each day is a new adventure.
Describe your workplace in three words.
Driven. Fast-paced. Results.
What is something someone might be surprised to learn about you?
While I was in college, I had the opportunity to travel around the country on road trips for college baseball and the summer leagues I played in. While getting to travel to so many places, I found a greater appreciation for Sioux Falls and the people here.
What’s your favorite way to give back to your community?
Outside of my work in property management, I spend a lot of time coaching local baseball players. The game of baseball created so many opportunities for me when I played, so it was only fitting to find a way to give back to the game and the players around the Sioux Falls area. I work with youth players all the way up to high school players.
What’s one business you’d like to see in Sioux Falls that isn’t here now?
Ikea.
If you had $1 million to start a business, what kind of business would it be?
If I had $1 million to start a business, I would open an indoor multipurpose sports facility so local sports teams can train year-round. There are a number of great facilities in town, but with Sioux Falls growing so much, it is always a challenge for teams to find the space to practice and compete.
