Here’s a look at recent changes in the business landscape in the Sioux Falls area.

A growing restaurant concept focused on breakfast and lunch is adding a Sioux Falls location. Early Bird plans to open at 3101 W. 41st St., which most recently was a location for Jacky’s Burrito Express. Jacky’s closed that location in late March. Early Bird is being franchised locally by Fred and Amy Preator, who discovered it in the Omaha area. The goal is to open in August.

Christopher & Banks is returning to Sioux Falls. The women’s apparel retailer will be in a space on the east side of Lake Lorraine that previously was Moe’s Home Collection. The plan is to open in May.

Asian Cuisine Express has opened at 1420 W. 41st St., which was a Taco John’s for decades. The menu features classic Asian entrees, appetizers, rice, lo mein and soups. Everything is sold as an individual serving, allowing customers to create combination plates or get a standalone entree. It’s open daily.

Popular national chicken restaurant Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers is taking steps toward a Sioux Falls location. The fast-casual chain has issued a request for construction bids for the site of the former David’s Bridal at 4004 W. 41st St.

Gaucho Flame Brazilian Restaurant is coming to the former Pita Pit location near the northwest corner of 69th Street and Western Avenue. The quick-service restaurant will be owned by chef Marcelo Krunitzky, who came to Sioux Falls from Brazil 20 years ago, and his wife, Micheli. The plan is to open by early June.

The University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine will be moving its Doctor of Medicine program from Vermillion to Sioux Falls sooner than expected. Sanford Health has offered to provide leased space in a building on its Sioux Falls campus for the program, and Avera Health also plans to provide classroom space. The move is expected to happen in the summer of 2028.

Retail tenants in a building at 40th Street and Minnesota Avenue are shifting locations. Dakota Workwear is moving into the former Johnson Fitness & Wellness Store with a goal of May 1 for the relocation. Resale Living, which will rebrand as Lifestyles by Resale Living, will backfill the Dakota Workwear space, likely in early June, and the Nyberg’s Ace corporate office and Nyberg’s Ace Handyman Services will take over the furniture store space.

Commercial real estate veteran Ryan Tysdal has started his own business. Tysdal Commercial has opened with a four-person team and will be located later this year in an office being constructed at 57th Street and Oxbow Avenue. The temporary office is at 7400 S. Bitterroot Place. Tysdal has worked as a commercial real estate broker for more than a dozen years, including the past decade at Van Buskirk Cos.

A food truck that serves Guatemalan street food now offers year-round service with a brick-and-mortar location. Sabores 502, which is owned by Nasly and Erick Paredes, is leasing space in a commercial building at 804 W. 11th St. The food is prepared in the truck, which is parked behind the building. It’s open for lunch and dinner Tuesday through Sunday. The food truck will continue to be at Sunday soccer games at Yankton Trail Park and occasional events, so the restaurant will be closed sometimes.

Art Moms and Friends has reopened for the year at the Park Place Center at 3101 W. 41st St. It features merchandise from 50 makers, bakers and vintage curators. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday through October and then Wednesday through Sunday from November until Dec. 20. Art Moms is run by the mother-daughter team of Pennie Ogden and Chantel Olson.
