National retailer Five Below has opened its first Sioux Falls store.

The location at Lake Lorraine is next to Hobby Lobby and offers a wide variety of merchandise for $5 or less.

It’s popular with teens and tweens for its selection of trendy and affordable inventory.

In its first hours of operation, the store already was filled with shoppers browsing everything from T-shirts to fitness equipment and gift items.

There’s a large selection of candy and collectibles.

Other categories include beauty, household items, games and toys.

Plus, there already are decorative and gift items for the upcoming holiday season.

Five Below takes up about two-thirds of the new 15,000-square-foot retail building, which was added to the south of Hobby Lobby. There’s 4,570 square feet of retail space available to lease in the building, dubbed as “Offshore Retail at Lake Lorraine.”

“This is an opportunity for a retail tenant to be sandwiched between Five Below and Moe’s Home Collection,” said Autumn Kaufhold of Van Buskirk Cos., the leasing agent for Lake Lorraine.

“The remaining space next to Five Below uniquely has frontage to Interstate 29, with over 60,000 cars per day.”

Leasing activity at Lake Lorraine has continued to be strong, with announcements in the weeks ahead of another junior-box retailer, Kaufhold added.

Hours for Five Below at 2420 S. Lorraine Place are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.

A grand opening is scheduled for Friday, and some kind of prizes or giveaways likely will be offered.

It’s the latest of several openings at Lake Lorraine, including Baking up a Storm, Chick N Max and DQ Grill & Chill. Starbucks is scheduled to open yet this year, and AutoZone has started construction.
