Fareway purchases property for new northwest store

Oct. 2, 2025

Fareway Meat & Grocery will be expanding to northwest Sioux Falls.

The Iowa-based grocer has purchased land on Marion Road, just north of Jefferson High School, with plans to construct an approximately 21,000-square-foot store.

“We’re excited to bring Fareway to the northwest part of the Sioux Falls,” Koby Pritchard, director of real estate for Fareway Stores Inc., said in a statement.

“We look forward to serving the many neighborhoods in the area.”

Fareway has two stores in Sioux Falls, one in Harrisburg and one in Tea and has plans in the works for a store in Brandon.

The new Sioux Falls location will be part of the Boyce Park development, which also includes a future Avera clinic and has land for additional commercial businesses.

“It’s great to see retail momentum in this quadrant of the city,” said Ryan Tysdal of Van Buskirk Cos., who represents Fareway in South Dakota.

“Fareway will join other retailers who have already purchased land in the area like Scooter’s Coffee, DQ, Nyberg’s Ace Hardware, Domino’s and Anytime Fitness.”

Tysdal said he expects to see continued retail growth in the area.

“Retailers and restaurants like being near traffic generators like grocery stores and schools,” he said.

“We’re currently under contract with another retail user that will be located between Fareway and Jefferson High School. We expect to make that announcement after the holidays.”

The new Fareway store will offer a full-service butcher counter, to-your-car carryout, self-service checkout options, online shopping and curbside pickup.

Fareway has not yet announced a timeline for construction.
