Don’t fall for it: Great Plains Zoo target of online scam

Feb. 23, 2024

The Great Plains Zoo is the latest target of a scam circulating online that has tricked visitors into buying fake tickets.

The scammers are placing social media ads promising anniversary celebration zoo ticket packages — four for $6.95.

They look like this.

Identical ads are showing up across the country, targeting the Minnesota Zoo, Virginia Zoo, San Francisco Zoo, along with more than a dozen others.

The zoo issued a statement asking the public to report the ads to the social platform if you see them – and to not give these scammers any of your personal or financial information. If you have already done so, reach out to your credit card issuer immediately.

GPZ and Butterfly House & Aquarium’s only current online offer is the Sea & Snow package, which includes tickets to both attractions for $21.50. Any deals on admission will always be published on the zoo website.
